Hello

I have booked a week at the end of august for this site with my wife and our three young kiddies. This is our first real camping trip so will no doubt try to pack everything into our car for the week.

Its all very exciting, but would like to get that holiday feeling early...so please tell me anything that will help?

Do's and don't and anything about the site? where to pitch, whats good and whats not!!

If anyone has stayed there this year i would love to hear about it.

Thanks

I have stayed at this site but is was about twelve years ago and it had rained and the ground was soggy!!!  Being a stroppy 19 year old the only thing that mattered was I was away with my b/f and no parents!!!  I can say that the surrounding area is beautiful wit hlots to do and see and I have been back down that way on numerous occasions.  Beautiful countryside and I really hope you enjoy it.

Hi cwoj!
Not been to St Ives for a few years but used to go every year. I loved it! It's great for campers as all the pitches are at the sea end of the site; the other end is full of chalets and static’s. can get a bit rowdy at the bar at this end, we always used the bar at the beach end as you could sit outside and watch the fab sunsets whilst the kids play on the park. We have met some really interesting ppl camping here, everyone was always friendly. The beach is fabulous and there are loads of little beaches nearby that are beautiful too. If you’re into fishing then St Ives Bay Harbour is great but worth a visit even if you're not. The pasties from Philps in hayle taste great and they used to be open 24 hours a day! If you fancy a bbq DONT take one onto the beach at the site you will be attacked by sandhoppers stick to the site. The kids will love all the rabbits around the site at night and it's definitely worth a visit to Paradise Park in hayle with the little ones. Check out the local papers for cheap vouchers!!! I hope you enjoy the site as much as we did will be going back soon to but this year we're having a change and going to Wales. Have fun!!

Just back from a week at St Ives Bay - it's a good site.

The beach is beautiful and has life guards on some sections.

It can be very exposed and windy so make sure you have decent pegs and guy the tent out properly. The ground is also predominently sand so standard wire pegs do not hold particularly well - we used Delta pegs but I reckon those made of V shaped metal plate would also be OK.

We were pitched on the area with EHU where you simply drive around and pick your pitch. If you get there early there are some really nice pitches some of which are very large. Also some are well sheltered.

There is a Lidl just down the road which is open until 8pm and a good source of groceries. Hayle is very close by for other shops, cashpoints etc.

We didn't use the club etc., but we found the staff very friendly and the toilets generally clean although we sometimes had to queue for showers and toilets at peak times.

All in all it was a great site.

Delta pegs are not essential but I would suggest that you use more than just wire pegs on your guy lines. If you go with what you have and they are not up to the job the site shop has the cheap V shaped ones. The tent next to us looked very sorry for itself in the winds when their wire pegs pulled out (not an Outwell tent though), and my wire pegs on my Oklahoma shock cords pulled out in the winds.

I used some of the standard Outwell Blue Pegs and they were fine although I didn't try them on my main guys.

The pitches are quite good sized - we fitted our Monty 12 with side canopy and an Oklahoma day tent on the pitch so I guess you'll be fine. The pitch sizes vary so I would get there early to ensure plenty of choice. I think arrival by 12pm is about right. We were there at around 1pm and whilst we still had plenty of choice the best pitches had already gone.

Have a great time there. If you head into St Ives I can recommend the park and ride by train which is signposted just after you leave the A30 on the way in. It was much better than struggling to park close by.
