We are looking at booking Warcombe Farm for a week next year, however just wanted to know what family attractions are near by to keep the kids happy and also whether anyone else as got some reviews of the sites other than the ones listed?

We had a long weekend at Warcombe Farm last weekend and loved it - it's a fantastic site.

We have spent many holidays in the Croyde/Woolacombe area over the past ten years and have always had a really wonderful time.  Nearby you have Watermouth Castle, The Milky Way and The Big Sheep which are all great days out - my only regret is that my (two eldest at least) children are too old for these now!  A trip to Lynton and Lynmouth is always worth it, to go on the mountain railway.  My dh likes a harbour so we always have to visit Ilfracombe (!).  If you fancy a shopping trip, Barnstaple is very good too.

We've also hired bikes on several occasions from the hire centre at Barnstaple Station and cycled to Bideford and back.  Great day out.

One thing we have never done but plan to rectify next year is a boat trip to Lundy Island - looks amazing.

Hope this helps.

Deb

Thanks Deb for that info, just out of interest how old are your children jsut for a guide as to whether the attractions will be of interest to the children we are taking.

Is there anymore useful info you can tell me with regards the site like the pitch sizes and are they level etc??

Hi Janbo

My children (all girls) are now 15, 13 and 8.  We first visited the area when the two eldest were 4 and 2 and at various intervals since!

The site itself was great.  We were on pitch 128 which was right next to the fishing lake.  If you look on their website, they have a site map.  The site is set out with some pitches divided by hedges (some only baby bushes), our bit had two caravans which I think must be there for the season and then us and another tent.  Some of the little areas were just for one tent or caravan, lovely and private.  As you enter the site, the part in front and to the left is more open.  Our pitch was very big - we have a Diablo 900, not the smallest tent in the world and there was more than enough room for the tent and the car (Galaxy).  The pitches are level too.

The fishing lake is lovely - the girls had a lovely time with their dad and caught a few tiddlers!  One downside and it might be because we were so close to the water, was there were millions of tiny, itchy flies when it was very hot.

The showers are truly awesome - best I have ever used!  If anything, the water is too hot!   However, there is only the one large block and it was a bit of a hike.  There was a toilet block nearby which was good for the last-one-before-bed but didn't have any hot water so not so good for a wash (tried it once and it took ages for me to feel my face again!!).

We would definitely stay there again - in fact are hoping to go again next year, if we can fit it in.

Deb

Hi Janbo

Just got back from Warcombe Farm today and Little Deb is right, there's loads for all ages of children to enjoy in that area.  We have stayed there 3 years running now from age 4 to 9, and my sister too who is now 14.  Warcombe Farm is a lovely site with all sizes of pitch (we have a Monty 6 with both canopies = large space), some pitches seem to be gently sloping.  Site staff are really really helpful and nice, clean site and great facilities.  Only thing I would ask for is not to be situated by the children's play area as they have installed a great (for the kids) zip wire which runs from around 8am to 10.30pm making a loud 'rrrrRRRrrrRRR' noise (!) which if you have young ones trying to sleep at 9pm can be a bit of  problem.  Other than that the site is peaceful at night and we'll go back next year again, the owners really seem to care about what they do.

If you can tell me the age of your children I can give you some information about activities as I think I know the area quite well ...

Regards

Kim

Can't praise this site enough - having just been to a tatty one in Cornwall it made me realise just how fantastic this one is.  It is so convenient for so many places too - I'd add to the list of places to visit the tunnels beaches in Ilfracombe with a tidal pool for safe paddling and bobbing about in rubber rings for kids.
