We have seen some details of Isle of Wight for camping and looks very nice, but we have never been and dont know where to stay, I have ordered some brochures from redfunnel.co.uk to try and get some idea's.

Can anyone advise of any good campsites near to some site seeing and tourist area's.

There are some sites on the redfunnel site and some include the ferry prices.

Please help.

Hi,

The Isle of Wight is a lovely place, and whereever you stay the whole island is easily accessible in day trips

You need to start at http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results.asp?region=South%20East&county=Isle%20Of%20Wight where you will find masses on info and reviews from other UKCampsite.co.uk members on pretty much every site on the Isle of Wight

Hope that helps

Ian

We've just come back from 4 days camping on the island and we stayed at Whitecliff Bay holiday park. It's a huge site and the pitches are massive, and although it's 'Open Plan' it didn't seem overcrowded. There is plenty of entertainment for both kids and adults on-site, along with an outdoor pool and direct access to a nice swimming beach. Generally the Island is very easy to get around, although a car is a necessity as public transport is stuck in the stone-age. Whitecliff bay is just by Bembridge on the very eastern tip of the Island. Not much in walking distance except the beach and Bembridge itself (about 20 mins) which has a couple of nice pubs and restaurants and a deli selling yummy local produce.

I'm sure wherever you go you'll enjoy it - and the locals all boast that it has it's own 'micro-climate'. Not sure about what truth there is in this but it's always been a few degrees warmer than the mainland whenever we've been there. Enjoy!

Hi there!

If you want to be reasonably close to all the major attractions on the island  (Blackgang Chine, Amazon World, IOW Zoo, Ventnor, Shanklin, Sandown etc) then you will want to be in the lower SE corner.

We've just returned from 2 weeks ar Adgestone Camping and Caravanning Club (see my lengthy review of this site!). It was peak season and we have nothing but praise for the site. I have never seen so many staff on one site - all working like little bees ensuring the facilities were nothing short of spotless at all times. I think they emptied the bins every time someone put something in it!

Pool was lovely and although a large site (with no entertainment I hasten to add) the pitches were large and well tended to.

We were so impressed that we will be booking again for next summer as soon as they start taking bookings.

It's only 20 mins from Blackgang Chine, 5 mins from IOW Zoo, 1/2hr from Red Funnel ferry.

We actually had some people on our site transfer from Whitecliff Bay AND The Orchards mid-holiday...for various reasons I guess, which I can't really comment on but worth a mention anyway!

Incidentally, if you want any pics of the site, let me know your email address and I will send you some (they are only 2 weeks old!)

Claire.

We stayed at the orchards campsite. Was very nice. Pool etc. good shop, not overpriced. We were pitched in the lower field -- very sapcious and beautiful country views.

For a family and entertaiments you can't beat Whitecliff bay. Orchards is in the back of beyond and charges for the indoor swimming pool! Adgestone is a good one but theres so so many more to choose from.

I live here and knowing what I do about campsites I'd go for Whitecliff Bay for a family camping holiday.

Good luck!

Hi

Has to be Landguard camping for us, we spent 3 great summers there and loved it, all within walking distance for shanklin, with its station, beach, old village, resturants, shops, chine, park, the site has an outdoor pool and the staff are one of the friendliest we have come across.

Forgot to mention

We drove into Orchards to have a look around as they 'said' they could not fit our Vango in.

It looked very busy... almost full with not a lot of space between pitches

I am begining to suspect that I have to quote a smaller tent than I currently have to get in .. honestly its the awning that takes it to 8m

But there were Xls and 900s there when I looked.
