Hi there

We are looking for a quiet site (quiet after 11pm that is) preferably near water/woodland which allows you to have fires.  We are in Bristol and would prefer to keep travel to under 3 hours.  I realise all of this sounds very particular but I have messed up arrangements for us and another family and am seeking to make amends.  The site I should have booked for us was exactly what I have asked for but is now booked out :(.

Can anyone make any helpful suggestions?  I would of course be prepared to compromise a little on those exacting requirements!

Not very geographical so not sure how far you are but Shell Island is near water and sure they allow camp fires

Pool bridge site, near Porlock/Luccombe on Exmoor - very natural site set amongst beautiful wooded river side walks.  They are very laid back and let you have fires.   Basic site though.

Another one is Westermill Farm nr Exford, Exmoor.

 friends of mine have stayed at Doone valley and they say it's fantastic.

Shell Island now only allow fires either on the beach or in fire buckets, due to the conservation area its set in/damage to the grass etc.

Doone Valley (the one you access through the car park) is a good site, your free to pitch where you like, can have fires, has a small river running through it and the (very hard working owner) delivers bags of wood if you order it

Thank you to everyone for posting your ideas.  Will definitely hold onto to all your suggestions!  Will consider the Wiltshire options and put it to the rest of my party and see what they have to say.  Have visited both Burnbake and Westermill sites.  Both great fun.  Thanks again

herston in swange is a nice quiet site, it allows fire, but teh water, unless you count teh tap kind, is a problem. i think hartland village campste, near bideford, allows fires, and is lovely and quiet, with a fishing lake that is lovely to take a barbeque to as it is not strict there. other than that, i don't really know.
