We've just been away for a long weekend, our first family camping trip with our two boys, 4yrs & 2yrs old. It was brilliant fun, I can see us doing alot of camping weekends now.

We went to Norfolk and stayed on a small family run site, it was great. I'll submit a review later but briefly we stayed at Pond Farm Sidestrand nr Cromer, £8 per pitch, £2 per adult, under 5's free. Free showers, quiet site, the only downside was the pitches were very close together, we have a Khyam Tourer 400 and were pitched next to a Vango 600 our guy lines were almost touching each others and we were both within our marked areas, we had to park in front of our tent as there wasn't room to the side, I informed the owner of our tent size when we booked, I'm not really complaining though, fortunately the families camped either side were lovely, there was barely any noise once it got dark, just a bit surprised how close we were, before having children we never camping during the school holidays.

Are pitches always so close together (during school holidays)?

Thanks to this ukcampsite I found a campsite which really suited us

We hadn't camped for years since I was in my teens were now nearer  over 50. we got a small tent took a trip to a suffolk campsite. Loved it bought a bigger tent and it's rained ever since I cant wait to go again. I have visions of not being able to use my new tent until next year.

I'm sure she will just take a cup of tea in the morning. I must admit there was just me and my other half but i didn't want to come home. It rained as well so it wasn't

just the fine weather. Must admit the children on the campsite seemed to be having fun and   there wasn't a lot there to do. May be brave and take grandchildren if it stops raining.

Hi, glad you had a great time.  Pitches on privately run, commercial sites are often crowded together like that during the peak season unfortunately.  The two main clubs, Caravan Club and Camping & Caravanning Club, have a rule that there must be at least 6m between units (excluding guy ropes).  Vehicles can be parked between units within this space provided that there is at least 3m clear space within the 6m gap.  This is a basic fire safety measure and personally I would not consider camping on a site that pitched units closer together, but I realise that unless it's a Club site, you probably wouldn't know until you got there.
