thinking of doing a trip [1st timers!] to campsites in cornwall, next week for 4 or 5 days, in the desperate hope that the weather may be a little better down there. we are in manchester and realise it could be a 6 hour drive. any suggestions on campsites? we have daughter of 8 who would like it to have a swimming pool? maybe near nice beaches and sightseeing? any ideas most welcome.

thanks

Hi

We went to Trevornick the first two weeks of the summer hols - its near Newquay, just down the road from Holywell Bay. It was brill, our kids loved it (ages 14, 11, 10 and 2) its got everything you need on site.

We booked 11 nights, Sunday - Thursday, so as to miss the bulk of the holiday traffic, and set off from Huddersfield at 5.00am on the Sunday morning - kids slept in the car till 9.00am, soooooo nice and quiet  we had three good stops, and still arrived at the campsite by 1.00pm. We never hit traffic once (compared with being stuck for 2 hours solid at Bristol the previous year, a 10 hour journey travelling on the Saturday

We actually came home on the Wednesday, as we decided that it would be impossible to pack everything up and be off the pitch for 10 am, (our first time camping too!) so we took it steady, and left for 1.30pm - home by 10.00pm, with 4 good stops.

Hope you get somewhere nice and have a great holiday

Tracey

woodlands caravan park at totnes is expensive but worth every penny if you have kids.

it wouldnt matter if weather turned out bad as they have fantastic indoor play area which would keep kids entertained for hours.you also have free entry to outside rides/shows/animal area/secluded walks etc

facilities well maintained/staff friendly and helpful.

within easy reach of dartmouth/torquay/brixham et al

my kids discovered crabbing which cost me £1 for a line and was a delight to see then entertained by something for hours on end that was not attached to a tv screen/monitor.

my only problem is finding a site that can come anywhere near to woodlands for choice of activities/ non activity!

I agree with John, once you've been to woodlands, everywhere else is not quite good enough! our kids loved it there (so did we!)

But Woodlands is not in Cornwall, mind you last 3 years we have been to Cornwall it has rained........unlucky I guess!
