Why do some people love sites and others think they are poor?

On a recent trip to north wales we found a fantastic site, right next to a great beach with excellent facilities. The site also had a small club, resturant, take away and shop.My six year old thought it was brilliant and loved every minute of the holiday.

We made friends with a couple of other families pitched next to us who were leaving the same day. Before we left we had a good chat, and to my amazement one of the families said they didnt like the site and would not be retuning while the other family loved it and said they would visit again.

I just dont understand why people are so very different. Its a strange world aint it !

Thats why it is so important to post reviews that are objective stating the camps facilities and what state they may be in and any good or bad points about the area. That way we can all pick sites that have the amenities we want  so we all have enjoyable hols.

We all like different things from life and our holidays included,  it would be a boring place if we were all the same and the camps would be few and far between and all full.

Fellrunner

Surely the fact that we are all different means we have the choice that suits us.

Afterall there are some who like going to Spain, some who like camping.

We prefer smaller sites yet there are sites with all modern facilities etc.

Also peoples ideals change, we met someone on our last trip who used to frequent the more commercial sites and now prefer smaller sites.

I say celebrate the difference and enjoy the choice.

Hope you are going to post a review though?

Phil

It one of those things - I know a lot of people hate commercial iste like Haven - but there are others, like myself, who have small children, that find they can provide a great holiday.
I think it's because we all like different things that gives us the diversity of sites.    we'e stayed  on one tiny site, which is sadly now Adult only, on the big commercial sites, and a busy site that had no facilities.
I will read the reviews as likes/dislikes can be common to all.   Most people prefer clean toilet/shower blocks - athough abeilt there are those who can resort to the ones in their van - not so easy if you are in a tent (or a van without).   Where as other things are a matter of taste or needs.

Hi PP-G+T

I know people prefer different things when camping but  i just couldnt understand why a family with the same make up as mine and experienced exactly the same holiday as ourselves could have a total opposite oppinion.

The site was not as commercial as a haven site nor was it a small site.It had the best of both worlds.

I have posted a review.

It really is personal preference -  for example - we would run a mile from any site which had a club / shop / take away etc . We look for really small sites with just toilet/showers and nothing else.

Doesn't mean we think people who like bigger more commercial sites have  ' got it wrong'  -  camping is a different experience for everyone and we all look for what is ' just right' for our family.

I should add that we have a nine year old and a fourteen year old and they don't like commercial sites either. They both enjoy birdwatching and nature walks, so like the quiet sites.

Hi Fellrunner

I think everyone has their opinion and different things appeal to them, however I must agree it is puzzling as to how someone could not have enjoyed the site you were on.

In our experience, the bulk of people we meet on sites have the same overall opinion, whatever the make up of the family.

Maybe they were the exception.

Which site was it by the way?

Phil and Penny

Hi Phil and Penny,

The site in question was Dyffryn seaside estate about 4 miles north of Barmouth.

You didn't state what it was the family didn't enjoy about the site Fellrunner. Also I don't see anything strange about people having different expectations and interests even if the family did appear similar to yours. It would be boring if we were all clones and every site was a carbon copy because that's what fits our 'ideal'.

We spent a week on a site with excellent reviews. The facilities were exactly as it said, the owners friendly, next door neighbours nice, but we both said we wouldn't go back it just wasn't us. I still can't put my finger on what I didn't like. Our second week was much more us and yet in theory both sites were the same standard. Wouldn't do for us all to be the same.

We have a tendency to compare sites to our favorite one in Pateley, unfortunately a lot of them dont match up! That said, our fave site wouldnt suit all neither!
