Hi folks,
We are getting an early ferry Saturday morning and are hoping to arrive in Dover Friday evening.
We have a small campervan (small enough to fit in an ordinary car parking bay) and wondered if anyone knows of a place that would be o.k. to stay over night.
Anywhere safe will do as we won't need any facilities.
Thanks
Terry

I think most people stay over on Marine Parade on Dover prom, there is also a large Tesco on the Canterbury road into Dover, you may get away with that.

The laybys on the way in are packed with lorries, totally nose to tail, don't know whether you could muscle in there - ??

Good Luck, and if you don't arrive too early you could always try sneaking on to port car park, although that is easier to do at Portsmouth - not so many ferries.

We stopped on Marine Parade in July and it was fine.  Parking is free from  around 6.00pm until about 8.30am.  One or two other campers but didn't see any people.  We arrived just after midnight from France and left before the paying time.  Cheapskates that we are.

Excellent thank you
Marine Parade it is. Hopefully we will find it !!!
Last time we caught the early ferry we nearly didn't make it as there was an accident on the M25 (as usual!!) So will feel happier being in Dover on the morning of departure.
Thanks again
Terry

We tried to get an earlier ferry, but they were full (Norfolk Line) and we had to leave the docks. We parked up in the Marina car park at about 2am.

As I was making sure the car was secure, a van with a Parking Attendant came to empty the ticket machine. He said we should have tickets for both car and caravan, and if we didn't have them after 7.00am we would be clamped.

Don't sleep in !!!

HTH

Paul

Terry, if you come down the A2 to the end at the bottom of the hill (Jubilee Way), stay in the left hand lane onto the seafront. Follow the seafront with the docks behind you and as the main rd bears away from the seafront turn left and follow the promenade infront of the flats. Thats Marine Parade. Clear off early which I beleive you will be anyway. If you want a quiet spot out of the town but within 5 mins off docks mail me and will impart some local knowledge.....Mick  ( mikobau at aol.com )

Will give the 'friendly' parking bloke a miss I think.
Mickeyb (above poster) has offered to share his knowledgr via email. We have a small campervan that fits in a normal parking bay and I bet the parking bloke would insist that we were not supposed to park there even though we would fit a normal bay. One small thing that I found on Kent's website that a parked vehicle in a car park bay must be under 2 metres high and this is the only measurement that our van does not conform to. We are below the length and width, but not the height !!
