If you want to poke your head out of your tent and check out the waves then you can't get much better than the Tristram campsite in Polzeath.

It is expensive, cramped but you fall out of your bag, pull on your wet suit and off you go.
This one in Croyde north Devon is mentioned in the Cool Camping book

Hope this helps

try morte farm ,europa (good vibe)
can recomend putsbourgh site although getting the van round the lanes is a bit tight,no camping
defo go to north devon as i think you get more real surfers (not just for image)
croyde village could be one of the best place to spend a out of season weekend break even if the sea is flat you can chill in the thatch or billy buds.
welcome aboard to another addict i started 4 years ago ,most weekend or sundays if i'm not in the van are spent driving round trip of 360 miles to surf !!!!
Have a go yourself hire a foamey and get out there!!!! and dont forget the sea is at its warmest at the moment and there are some epic swells about to arrive this weekend and next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree about Tristram. Fantastic location, very small pitches, v.v expensive for the level of facilities provided and at least one perpetually miserable member of reception staff! MT
