We went at May BH weekend. A nice site really, if very large. Was overcrowded being a BH, and any issues we had were overcrowding related. Shop had large range of stuff, but was a bit pricey if I remember rightly.
Don't know if you've been to the area before, but you've chosen well.
Lots of reviews on the campsite search. We've stayed there in the past but not this year. The site is very scenic and close to Pooley Bridge which has a couple of pubs/hotels.The site has a clubhouse that sells alcohol but it was not really our scene, the food however is fine and pretty good value. We prefer the the lakeside field as the other field(beside takeaway and clubside) can be busy at peak periods. It is very atmospheric site to wake up in when the mist rolls across the lake.
It is only a few miles away from Penrith which is worth a walk around the town (make sure you get a parking disc from the shops when you go into the town. -- You get a couple of hours free parking with these !!)
Also, a drive around the lake is very scenic and good for taking photos.
We have been a couple of times and enjoyed both times, although our last visit was noisier than previous ones due to three `loud` families camped next to us.
The shop is well stocked and we didn`t find it that overly priced. Penrith is worth a walk round and does have a Morrisons supermarket as well as an Aldi. Carlisle is a short drive away and has a greater variety of shops.
Ullswater Lake is beautiful and there is a short walk by the lake that leads you into Pooley Bridge.
All in all I would recommend this site, but be warned as sometimes it can get noisy when the club entertainment finishes.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
The site is fine, and the area lovely. We went to the Ostrich Farm a few miles away ( I think that was the name) it had lots of different animals even Zebra's, you can buy a bag of feed and feed the animals, watch the SHEEP being milked, there is also a soft play area with a small cafe, a good day if you have kids with you.
