Hi,
I posted about a week or so ago about opening a campsite. Was thinking about portaloos but advice has been to stay away if I poss can!! (Thanks btw to all who responded, v helpful!). So, was wondering if there are any campsite owners out there who can help me with a rough guide to the price of loo and shower blocks?? Would want around 3 loos and 3 showers. Am contacting builders for quotes as well but tht it wld be useful to get some advice from someone who's already been there and done it!!
Thanks,
Kath

Hi Kath , we had a meet at Cartref site nr Shrewsbury recently and they've just had new loo block & showers, 3 loos, 3 showers and wash cubicles - 2 I think. The owners Pat & Allen are very approachable and might be useful to have a chat with - they don't post on here as far as I know but you could contact them on the phone??

Portaloos wouldn't worry me as long as they were kept clean, but I think I'm probably in the minority. Well maintained toilets are quite high on most peoples preferences for site facilities.

The details for Cartref are here.

Hi Kath,

We built a large Multi-purpose Amenity Building in 2000 with following facilities

a)      Male facilities                                  Female facilities

5 Toilets                                          6 Toilets

3 Urinals

5 Vanity basins (3 in cubicles)          5 Vanity basins (3 in cubicles)

3 Showers                                       3 Showers

b) Disabled / Family Room, including shower & toilet & baby changing facilities

c) Chemical / Waste Water disposal point

d) Dish Washing sinks (x4)

At the time it cost us £135,000 plus VAT.......but it would have been £155,000 if I had not project managed the build. This build was to a very high specification.....but then it has "re-paid" us with great customer satisfaction, plus winning 5 Star Loo of the Year Awards etc.

I know this is a far larger building than you are planning, but if you scale the cost down I would expect it to cost in the region of £30,000 - £40,000 plus VAT.

If you'd like more info, give me a call anytime, or even pop over to have a look at these loos!! I am very proud of them!

All the best,

John Brookshaw   MD  The Plassey Leisure Park

Although not a campsite owner - one thing that I find very useful is a family sized shower room - or at least cubicle that mum and a couple of kids can fit into without it being a squash.

I think your best bet might be found here: http://www.cosalt-holiday-homes.co.uk/amenity/index.asp

Ask them to send you some designs.  Going on what I have seen your block should work out between £20,000 - £30,000.  A stage up from portaloo's and very attractive from the outside as well.

If I was starting a new development without a building to convert I would use this option.  Arrives on the back of a lorry, plug in the water, connect the drainage and away you go.  No running after builders!!!!!!!
