Don`t know if this is any use to anyone but I have just booked at Wild Duck nr Great Yarmouth (haven) for the 2nd week in July. It has cost me about £72 ( inc electric hook up )for the week for a tourer under 21` with 2 adults and 2 children. Got a £130 discount for booking early. link - www.haven-holidays.co.uk under caravan and camping on right hand side.

Hi

Excellent price I just hope Haven have spent some money on it. We stayed at Reighton Sands a couple of years ago and were disgusted with it, steep sloping pitches, cold outdated dirty toilet block. Personally we have found Haven to be disinterested in tourers and as such have not used them for over a year now. I must add this is a personal opinion and its worth reading other threads and reviews first

Came back on the 2nd from Burnham on Sea Haven.

End of season and the entertainment was poor. Even the Caravanners were complaning about lack of cleanliness in the Caravans. We had fun but got the impression that it was getting ready to close. Areas falling into disrepair.

Directions for Tourers/ Campers poor. Check in signs took us to  Hired Caravan Check In, no notes to go to reception.

Good size and flat pitches though. Facilities ok

Want to go to Haven again due to Tesco Vouchers and we had a good time in a Caravan last year but with all poor reviews  from Campers not sure if a good idea.

It's a pity how all the old 'independent' campsites around Burgh Castle, Bradwell and Belton in Norfolk, have been taken over by the 'big' companies... Places like "Liffens", "Cherry Tree Farm", "Wild Duck" and "Blue Sky" used to be nice sites in the seventies (showing my age!)... Oh well, things change with time, but not always for the better it seems...

We went there for Oct half term week 2 years ago with our little grand daughter and was very dissapointed, especially after reading all the good reviews.

The touring site was packed solid and we were all packed in like sardines. Kids were allowed to cycle and play football around the vans and vehicles etc and we ended up with 2 great muddy football prints on our new motorhome. Fortunately, no damage occurred but it could have caused a nasty dent or 2. Also children were cycling around the vans and due to the bad weather the site became even more churned up and resembled a dirt track by the end of the holiday. I really think Wild Duck should set a designated area aside for football games and cycling as it is not fair to allow this around peoples caravans and motorhomes. Most caravan sites do not permit cycling or ball games on the actual camping areas do they and I really think to be fair to their customers this policy ought to be adopted at Wild Duck.

The shower blocks were dirty and smelly and kids and young teenagers were using them as playgrounds. When I went in they were using it as a meeting place to smoke and were also throwing toilet rolls around and upturning the santitary bins. I was disgusted by the state of the toilets and shower blocks and only ever used them once the rest of the time we used our own onboard facilities.

We ate once in the Oasis and never again - it was terrible and very expensive. We had to wait ages to order our meal (sunday carvery) and then queue up for an eternity to have the chef slice up the roast - he put the meat on our plates and then announced he had run out of roast potatoes - we all stood there for 5 mins with our meat going cold when eventually the potatoes arrived. The people in front of us tucked in and once again they ran out of potaotes. The potatoes eventually arrived and then they ran out veg. The young chef looked panic struck and kept running in and out of the kitchen. Eventually we got our food but it was tasteless and cold.

The indoor pool area was fine and my grand daughter loved it in there and the entertainment team did an excellent job in entertaining both kids and adults in the onsite club. They all worked hard and they had boundless energy and always seemed happy and cheerful - especially with the kids. My grand daughter really loved Rory and his friends.

Personally we hated it and it's not a place i would rush back to but my granddaughter loved it there and that was the main thing and as long as she was happy we were happy and we made the most of it.

Sue

Hi Andy Pandy yes we have happy memories of a holiday at the Blue Sky I guess it would have been around 1983, there was a lovely touring site opened a couple of years ago overlooking the Broads and right next door to a restaurnt at Burgh Castle (something farm) we booked on there as we moved from Liffens which I hated, anyway it was the same week Sonesta was at Wild Duck so they joined us for one night with the motorhome, I remember her dreading going back to the Wild Duck next day.

The Council down there in their wisdom then closed the site down we had stayed on completely the poor guy had put so much work into it, the reason that I could see on the net, was the EHU looked unsightly to folk going by on the Broads  I often think of how lovely it was and feel sad it has gone.

That sounds like you're talking about "Church Farm" at Burgh Castle. When I lived in Burgh Castle (during the late seventies) it was still a working farm, owned by the family of the landlord at the "Queens Head" Tony Steward... I never got around to staying there, while it was a campsite; a pity really, because I love the area... However, I'm told that "Rose Farm" just up the road in Stepshort (Belton), is a very nice friendly site. So I may well have a look next Spring and perhaps stay there for a few days... It's a pity about "Liffens" because when old Charlie Liffen had it, a long time ago, it really was a nice 'rural' type of site, even when he built the clubhouse & pool there... Oh well, time moves on!...
