There are a couple of site that have tents you can hire, but don't know of any in Essex. There's one in Dorest that hires out mongolians tents - can't for the life of me recall the tent name nor the site.

The only one i can think of that hires tents ( or at least used to) is Sandford in Dorest

Sandy Balls in Dorset have euro tents that you can hire not much help I know as your looking at Essex but you could go on their website and have a look at one.

Holiday Resort Unity at Brean Sands have euro tents for hire

I think trevornick in Newquay do them.

the ones at Unity farm are in brown field at the edge. Seem nice but a bit out of the way out of the school hols, you would nearly have the whole field to yourselves. Brown field's loo's are the portacabin style but green field only few mins more for some luxury. 

In Essex, you could try the Park Resort sites, a lot of their sites offer tent hire
