Help! My husband and myself were booked on the Burrs Caravan site at Bury 27/10 for 3 nights, as it was within walking distance to the metro so we could get in easily to Manchester at low cost (the reason was to suprise our son on his 21st birthday). Unfortunatly i have got home from work to find that the site is closing on the 16/10 for them to do some building work to make new hardatanding pitches. I am now desperatly looking for a site that can accomadate our tourer at short notice. Has anyone any ideas? All ideas would be gratefull

Ann

there's this one in poynton, doesn't give much detail, but may be worth a ring.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=5240

This one is quite a bit further out but may be on a train line into manchester.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2318

haven't stayed at either, so can't vouch for the facilities.

There is a cc club certificated site at Heywood (near Rochdale). It's only a couple of fields away from the M62. Don't let the fact that it appears to be a cooking oil recyling and re-distribution plant put you off as this is not apparent. What we saw was quite a sweet little riding stables.

Alternatively you could try a travelodge, there are several in the centre of manchester, sportscity one comes out at £46 for a double room for 3 nights, manchester central is £55. So may not work out much different than camping + rail/taxi fares.

Try Holly Bank Caravan Park (tel. 0161 775 2842) by the Warburton High Level bridge over the ship canal. It is 2 miles from the M6 junction 21 towards Irlam/Manchester. At the traffic lights turn right to go over the bridge and the site is immediately on the left. To get into Manchester by tram, drive to Altrincham and get the Metro from there.
Whilst in the area you can visit Dunham Park and Tatton Park which are close by.

Gelder Wood Country Park (adults Only) , Rochdale Campsite

Very close to 3 train stations all within 10- 20 mins of Manchester

jollyinteresting

Shows many sites within the area but most you have to be a member of either CC or C&CC

Hope these help. there is not much in the immediate Manchester area tho it has brilliant train links. If you are anywhere in the Greater Manchester area you can buy a day rover train ticket for less than £3 per Adult. As many trains as you want all day. So you could go a little further afield than you think. Used to live in Oldham so will try to assist if you find somewhere and are not sure if covered by the ticket.

Good luck!!

If you do decide to use hotels, check out http://.com/y7wwcc, but not on match days I think

Train station very close Map of United Kingdom | Multimap.com Trains hourly £7 return per adult. Last train 20.58from manchester

A great hotel is the Lancashire county Cricket Club if Man U are not at home. £44 per room pr night if you stay for 2. Can highly recommend, we use it 4/5 times a year to go watch the cricket. Its less than a 5 min wlk from the metro and buses in abundance to city centre Old Trafford Lodge Hotel - Manchester

Hi

Theres a campsite at hollingworth lake, littleborough, you can either walk to smithybridge or littleborough station or it would be approx 2 pounds in a taxi and the train takes 25 miniutes into Manchester Victoria.

i know you fancy camping but as an interesting alternative in a fab spot, have a look at the yha in castlefield, manchester. Right in the city centre yet over looking the castlefield basin and waterway.

There is a site just outside Rivington Village nr Bolton, no Metro link from Bolton but excellent train service from Horwich, a small town next to Rivington
