FECK ME !!!
My God, were we glad of a hardstand at Redwell fisheries at Arkholme last week for our tent !!!!!
We arrived there on Tuesday, last week, at 5pm. The owner showed us a grass pitch with EHU & water, very nice I thought, until Jules noticed about half a dozen dog toilets (being nice !) where the tent would be standing !!
So after loads of our "that's totally disgustings" and his apologies, "that must be the ones in THAT caravan", despite the Border Terrier accompanying him !! He showed us a hardstanding, sh*t free, pitch with EHU & water i.e. a caravan pitch.
Great, we thought , as the rain drilled down even harder. Got the tent out and the wind picked up and rain became stair rods for the next hour, whilst we pitched . Absolutely trainey squelshin', jean drippin' soaked !
For the next 2 days & nights the weather continued to treat us to lashings of rain and gale force winds.
I was sooooooooooooooo glad I had loads of Rock pegs with us, every guy and anchor peg needed double pegging. Wind was so bad it took out one guy rope (ripped off at the stitching to the flysheet attachment) and the rain was virtually non stop.
So with this lot over 2 days , can you imagine how much mud we'd have had to deal with ?.............thanks to the hardstanding pitch......NONE !!!!!
So the moral of the tale................Hardstandings for tents ??? Hell Yes hel63 !! But you sure as hell NEED those rock pegs !!!
Cheers
