Jim sleeps in the van on a bed made from an old duvet. Last winter we had the campervan and had an oil heater ticking over very low all night anyway otherwise it got really bitter in there.

You could use a Thermal pet bed for your dog. They heat up with the dogs own body heat, my dog and cat have one and they are nice and snug in there. To keep the mud of your dogs paws you may want to try some boots.
I sell all of these items if I can be of any help to you and you can see them at www.dogmobility.com
If you want any advice on boots just let me know as I have many different types to suit different situations.
was just about to say do you do an all in one i have a yellow lab who quite often arrives from the garden that full of mud you would think she was chocolate coloured.

Thats the danger, we have a chocolate lab who comes up to you filthy muddy, only you don't realise that until she's jumped all over you! Perhaps its me needs the all over protective clothing!
Our cocker sleeps with us too when we are away....well, actually she sleeps on the end of our toddlers bed as she is very protective of him and likes to be where she can smell him! She always gets the rough end of the stick as he invariably kicks her during the night, but it must be part of the love-hate relationship they have because she keeps climbing back on!
Inside of a tent is no different to the inside of an awning is it? Just get her a big duvet to lie on and perhaps a covered hot water bottle?
Oooh that reminds me...I was chatting with a friend in the reception of the last campsite we stayed at and said 'our cocker was in bed with me all night and kept pushing against my back, I swear she was trying to push me out of bed.....' I hadn't managed to finish my sentence before an elderly (hard of hearing) lady behind me tutted and said 'tsk I thought we came to 5* sites to get away from the likes of her' LOL. I explained what I'd meant (as in, the dog!) and I thought she was going to wet herself laughing! She bought us lunch in the nearby pub though! lol

She sleeps in the van. We have a porch awning and I take umpteen dog towels with us, everything in the caravan is covered with throws and we have plastic matting covering the carpet. She loves water and soon as a river/stream/puddle is spotted she's in it, but we dry her off in the awning with the towels and make her sit out there for half an hour or so and then she comes in the van.
soon as we get home the van has a full valet inside ready for next trip!
We have 3 dogs, (border collies). In the summer 2 of them sleep in a large cage in the awning, and the older one (13yrs) sleeps in the motorhome with on a duvet.
I wouldn't let any off them sleep in an awning in the winter, even with a fan heater and several blankets. Temperatures often go into minus figures and often damp sets into their joints. ( I compete with mine).
However we do have a large dog cage set up in the awning and fan heater plugged in for when they come back from walks. (During the day) we towel them off and leave them 15 mins or so to dry them out. Then you can brush the mud out before going into the van.
we bought the caravan so that we could go away with our mud loving golden retriever. We have covered the seats with washable blankets (he does not get up on them though), lifted the fitted carpets, and recarpeted with offcuts. He sleeps on his own bed at the other end of the van to us, usually very well because he is all walked out. We take lots of towels too. He loves caravanning, and so do we!
