here is a suggestion Mrs B, Donington park farmhouse, next to east midlands airport jnc 23a of the M1. lovely site, spotless facilities ok under the flightpath to the airport but little noise during the night, used it for the racing last 3 years and heartile reccomend it http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=donington&by=sitename
Luton to Consett is only a one day haul, why bother with a stop?
We often do Glasgow to Peterborough with no problems, only OH driving. We leave home at 9am, toilet stop at Gretna, 90 minutes for lunch once we are down the A1 a bit, Ferry Meadows in plenty of time for cooking dinner.

suppose this is too far north http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=2688 (owned by the legendary Renault Clio Cup racer Phil House and hsi parents, what do you mean never heard of him )
You're right, it is, but thanks anyway. Also looks expensive!
Using the M1 half way is around Nottingham/Derby. How about Clumber Park?
But the whole trip is only about 250 miles, so about 5 hours driving. Surely you do not need an overnight stop for that distance? I agree stopping somewhere new is half the fun, but we would only do it if we were stopping 2 or 3 days to explore the area.

Thanks Jennifer, have booked a certificated site in S. Yorks. We always stop over somewhere, could do it in 1 but prefer not to.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
