At the risk of you giving your best kept secret away!

Can anyone suggest a site around 1-2  hrs drive of the Leeds area?Which is open all year round?

Being a Motorhome we would like hard standing if poss and a chemical disposal point and the essential EHU.

Showers would be nice but not essential, good walks and a decent dog friendly pub near by would be fantastic!!

I know this is a big wish list but as we have recently bought  our MH we are keen to get out and about in all weathers!

Coast or inland ,it does not matter, would prefer to avoid muddy farm tracks at this time of year as you will appreciate the ground is saturated and we would like to avoid getting stuck in the ever increasing mud!!

Many thanks,

Val

Val,

we went to Hawthorne Cottage in the Forest of Dean for Christmas, has all your requirements but it might be a bit too far away? Look at the reviews. Nothing to do on the site, it's near Coleford, between the forest and the lovely Wye Valley. We got more mud from the motorways than on the site! The owners are very helpful, and it was £8.50 a night with EHU! They get booked up well in advance for bank holiday w/es apparently.

You can do an advanced search on here and specify open all year sites. There are a few in North Yorkshire

Thanks Anne and Jules,

Hawthorne Cottage sounds great, we would probably need a few days and we shall give it a whirl when we have the time.

Forgot about the advanced search!!

Found a couple of not too far away places that look just the ticket.

The mud allergy is because I keep a horse at a local farm and I am continually up to my eyes in mud so I tend to keep away from the "working farm sites" this time of year.

Lots of them look excellent and I am sure they would make brilliant places to visit if it ever stops raining!!!

How long have you had the motorhome now Val?  You haven't managed to get stuck yet? I've lost count of the number of times I've had a tow. Even managed to get stuck for the night once when I only pulled on for a quick look at the site.

You'd probably enjoy Clumber Park although there isn't a pub within walking distance. Not on the way back anyway.

You should try getting stuck in a foot of snow which happened to us at Greenhills at Bakewell a few years ago.

OK Red,I've been sprung! I have now realized I can run but I can't hide!

I do not want to get my nice clean Motorhome dirty!!

Honest I do spend most of my time covered in mud (nothing to do with wrestling) and would like to avoid it as much as possible (I have to karcher my wellies on a daily basis). So a mud free night or two would be nice!

Quite liked the look of Clumber Park, shame about the pub but I suppose our own supplies will keep us going.

If we are to be "dragged" off site by a nice man in a tractor I suppose we better locate the towing thingy!

We were dragged off the site by a young lady in a landrover (owner's daughter), the owner was pie eyed and this was early afternoon!

Oh Mrs Bonce I think I would have to be pie eyed during the process of being dragged about by Landrover in the early afternoon.

Stop it you lot, your scaring me!!

Next thing you will be telling about are the experiences with JCB's and the likes!

I am going to start a campaign for the whole of the UK to be covered in tarmac!

You haven't lived until you've been dragged around a few times in the afternoon. [;)]   I used to stay regularly at a CL site in Derbyshire. It was a foregone conclusion I'd get bogged down. The owner always used to ask what time I wanted pulling out in the morning. I assume he meant the motorhome. [o)] [8D]

The Peak District was snow. The following year we went to Pembrokeshire for Christmas and had to be dragged ON to our pitch after OH ignored the owner's instructions not to drive on the grass!

Try Whitewater Park, Stockton, Caravan Club site, seems to meet all your requirements including a nearby pub and plenty of dog walks.  Easy to get to from Leeds straight up the A1 and A19 I think they only use the hard standing pitches at this time of the year.

Cheers Dave,I had looked at the Stockton site and you have confirmed that it is what we are looking for, especially the all important pub!

Have managed to book Clumber Park, although it seems to be very busy and first available dates are in Feb,must be lots of other people with aversion to mud and a fear of being dragged around the campsite by the owners daughter!

Val,

Why not give us a try......we may be a little further for you, but I beleive you will really like it here. Lots of hardstandings for caravans / motorhomes, electric points, nature trail walks, swish toilets & showers etc etc

Best wishes,
