I just came back from a few days away and found a place that is offering a 'timeshare' type thing.  Before we invest (because it's in a really nice place) what do you think?

They want £500 per year then £50 a week to stay in a really nice static caravan in its own little patch with parking and water, electric, gas etc.  For the £500 we get to use 8 weeks there.  2 are fixed in the summer and 1 around Easter time, the rest are first come first served.

I really like the idea, just wish they had a website to point you at so you could see it in more detail.  What do you think?  I don't want to be a complete muppet.  Have you heard of or seen anything similar?

Cheers.

I have come across this with canal boats and think it is a great idea as you are at a different boatyard evey year. There have been a few sites that tried this idea with statics, i dont know of any that are still going. Sounds like a good idea if your happy with the site but i would have to do some research on the company and want to know what happened to my £500 if the idea fails.I would also want to know how many they are going to sign up as more than 6 and you are going to struggle to get your weeks in and all are not going to get summer months with a 2 week holiday. Good luck.

Hummm, I like the idea of a time share static caravan, but this would need to be backed up by a decent website to book / manage it. I would definitely be interested In investing into one of these clubs.
I'm looking for somewhere in North Wales that I can escape to at the weekends and during school holidays.

A friend tried this with a boat but it is a lottery getting the times you require unless you can do a deal with other time sharers. Their venture did not last long. Also the more that participate the less your chances become, especially school holidays. It needs a good website for it to operate smoothly with the dates you require. Then as said pot luck.

As well as all the above......what happens if you want to cancel the agreement? Are you responsible for finding a replacement? Are there any extra costs involved in terminating your involvement?

Who Is responsible for maintenance charges / breakages / cleaning etc?

What happens if the site owners or caravan owners want to sell up?

Although I like the idea, it’s not for me.   .

Hi everyone I am thinking of timeshareing my caravans in a beautiful Scottish location quite peaceful . Whoever takes the timeshare has the responsibility of their own gas and electric ,and of coarse keeping the inside very clean and tidy.Any breakages you are responsible for no it's no buts .you bring your own bedding.you self cater for yourselves.but you will be held responsible for every thing inside the caravan.as when, what week or month that will be on a rotation.so if yo get may fortnight you must give that space up to someone else it will be a rota system.we will be providing a website.and we are going to give out only 4weeks per year.and your timeshare will last only 3 years.after that you can walk away or renew your contract .if for any reason you can't make your holiday then there is nothing anyone can do about it so you will lose it.unless you can give it to some other member of your immediate family. As I said still working on it .

I'm sorry, but there are some aspects of your post that I really don't understand.......but you will be held responsible for every thing inside the caravan.as when, what week or month that will be on a rotation.so if yo get may fortnight you must give that space up to someone else it will be a rota system..........

That sounds like gobbledy-gook, can't understand what that means at all.

When you set up your website, you will need to make everything chrystal clear, much clearer than this post.
