Can anyone recommend a site for us with our caravan. I'm trying to find something as near to Poole as possible that is quiet with high standard clean facilities.

Child free would be good but not essential ...A shop on site would be good, but again not essential .. but definately no swimming pools, club houses etc etc .. you probably get my drift. Looking to book something for 16th June for a week.

I've checked the campsite search facility but nothing appeals .. so any advice would be appreciated

Thankyou

Is Pear Tree Touring Park any use - See Reviews.  Some think it is a bit strict but it seems ideal for adults and you can get a special rate of £77 for a week for 2 adults with electric and awning in June.  We have just booked the same week as you are looking for.

Thanks for the recommendations .... I wasnt keen on Merley Court as looks a little to commercialised for what we are looking for.

I really like look of Pear Tree but one of the rules states

  • "Dogs are not left unattended in caravans, tents or cars. We report unattended dogs to the R.S.P.C.A "

We take our dog with us 90% of the time, but there are occasions when we leave him in the van unattended (unless weather hot etc) ,,, He's only a little thing (Llasa Apso) who's quiet etc but i get the feeling if somoene saw him at the window on his own they may actually report us to the RSPCA  .

There is a little site at a village called Organford - I think the sites Organford Manor, nice old fashioned family run place. Not the most up to date facilities but were nice and clean and it is uncommercialised (with a small store/shed).

Good luck.

There's an adults only site a few miles from Poole, It's called the back of beyond. There's reviews on here about it. We often go there. People mention the bad entrance , really rough bumpy road, it's true , it is like that, but once on site really peaceful.

I was going to say Pear Tree as well.  It is a lovely site but the bloke in charge is a stickler and yes I would imagine he is the type to fully implement his rules !

Pear Trees is a really nice site, it is one of the sites I may consider if we do move the van to a different location sometime.

Pear Tree looks lovely & is probably just what what we are looking for but anybody that threatens to report me to RSPCA for leaving my dog in the van (unless dog is distressed in some way), i would imagine being a bit of a "jobsworth" & probably the kind of person i go camping, to get away from .. so i'm going to give Pear Tree a miss on this occasion (I know the reviews are good, i appreciate people recommending this site & i am tempted ... but a "little voice" is telling me .. not for us

"Back & Beyond" campsite looks ideal ... Adults only & according to the reviews, nice, quiet & relaxed  Got to wait until February to book though

Still open to suggestions though

g4fne

I think the owner of the site is probably worried because of this

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/tayside_and_central/6159317.stm

And this

http://www.parkvets.com/whatsnewandawards-rspcahotdogs.html

And this

http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/jezturner/dogsincars/features.html

All examples of dogs in cars in warm weather though, not sure we would if we had a dog, i kinda think to myself, would we leave our kinds in the car or van, erm, naa....each to their own i guess...Happy campsite hunting anyway

Hiya,

We stayed on Merley Court in 2005 and it's not commercial at all really (or it wasn't then) one of the better sites we have visited toilets , showers etc were spotless although we didn't go in the school holiday period and picked a pitch on the outskirts of the park there were just 4 pitches where we were (on the left as you pass reception) backs onto woodland and lovely and quiet.

Would definately go back but would be reluctant to go in the middle of the site.

Two dogs died in a caravan in 1999 on a Dorset caravan park.  The owners had gone off for the day and left the dogs inside.  Holiday makers heard the dogs crying, and alerted the Warden.  The police were called.  The dogs were already dead when the police broke in.  Thats how quick it takes.  And thats why the police are called - whichever campsite you go on - hopefully to avert a tragedy and avoid spoiling other people's holidays
