Karageen is near Hope cove,  they say it is a short walk... but actually it is down a narrow lane - very uphill coming back (!) and a bit hairy with children and gear!  The site is OK, although the showers when we stayed there for the eclipse were FILTHY every time we used them.   The access if you have a caravan is very narrow.  J

Thanks for the advice - my van is a bit long for the single track devon lanes.

Love Hope Cove though - first went there when I finished school back in 83 - did a National Trust work camp based in Hope Cove for 2 weeks - best holiday I ever did.

Started at 6 in the morning - worked for 8 hours and on the beach by 2 - for 2 weeks.......great...

Beverley in Paignton is our fav. A few years since we stayed there as we now live in the east but we had a couple of great holidays there.

I mUst admit the road to Karrageen is rather narrow and I suppose you do ride on your luck going down there!  But, the views and the area are worth it.  It seems to me that everybody grumbles about the showers, and I must admit that it is one of the few sites where we use our shower in the van.  However, these are both small sacrifices for the views.

If you want easier access, we used to go to Berrymans farm at South Milton, near Thurlstone (1 mile nearer to Kinsbridge) No facitilies but I think the C & CC site now hook up.  Again fantastic views and great beaches.

I know alot of poeple like Anston farm (1 mile nearer to Salcombe) again much better access than Karageen, not as nice site, for us it will always be karrageen and the slightly duff showers!!

Cheers

Don't go as far down the lane as Karageen. Stop at the campsite before at Bolberry Farm. Extremely friendly owners. Meticulously clean shower block. Loads of space and a simple playground and sand pit for the kids. 15 minute walk into Malborough for pubs and minimart at petrol station, 10 minute drive to Kingsbridge for the supermarket. We go back at least twice a year.

Yes the lane is narrow, but it is hardly busy... and drivers generally try hard to help each other out. Never known the beach at Hope Cove to be particularly busy either, even for Hope Cove weekend on Aug Bank Holiday. We were one of five families on the beach at Inner Hope one Bank Holiday ... and it wasn't because of the weather! Idyllic!!
