Can anyone help with a reccomendation, due to work commitments this year we have decided to take a few short breaks rather than one or two long breaks. I'm looking for sites no more than about 100 miles from Oxford. We prefer basic sites hook up, loo and showers is all we ask for in life as we like to just get away and chill. And the cheaper the better, don't want much i here you say!!!! We have stayed at Loveders farm near Chichester many times and love it to bits but would like to try somewhere new. I don't mind if it's quite close to Oxford as long as it's basic and quiet, we have always found the basic sites to be quieter.

Is Cambridge too far for you?

I coudln't recommend this site highly enough, friendly family run.  Separate fields depending on your needs and milk, bread and newspapers to order.  Plus other essentials in the reception block.

There is an adequate site at Lechlade on Thames...a very nice setting next to the river and 5 minutes from the village. When I went a year or so ago it was only £4 a night...the site is fine but the loos are awful! Ok if you have your own facilities. I think it is in the UKCS lists.. Bridge caravan site or something like that.

What about the Caravan Club or Camping & Caravanning Club CLs and CSs?  You do have to be a member to use them. Membership of each club is about £34 and some of the CLs/CSs are only a few pounds a night and they're all over the place, behind farms, pubs, down little lanes.  You're sure to find something you like.  The Caravan Club's web site has details of theirs on line and you can see instantly what facilities are available.

We are like you - just want the basics - so we're going to have a look at some of these this year.

Nora

There's a site on a farm south of Gloucester, first one we ever stayed on with a caravan, Valance Farm I think. Cetainly used to be cheap.
