OH has decided that London might a good idea for this year`s main holidays in August. I have been searching for a campsite for the last two nights and some have no reviews for last year. Did anyone go to a London campsite last year and if so which one? What was it like?

Ideally we are looking for a quietish campsite, but with train links or buses into London nearby. We don`t necessarily need a clubhouse or entertainment onsite, but a pub within walking distance would be nice. As we have two kids aged 14 and 11 we would like something for them onsite, but again it`s not essential. Any ideas anyone?

We recently stayed at the CC site in Crystal Palace.

The bus takes you all the way from just outside the site to Trafalgar Square, or if the traffic is too heavy get off at Brixton and use the tube.

Great for a family visiting London, a day pass for transport was about £10 per day for a family.

There is another Caravan Club site at Abbey Wood SE London £5.40 for a travel card to cover train bus and underground for the whole day, 45 mins to Charing Cross by mainline train. There is al;so a site at Edmonton in North London you can find it on Google.

We went to Abbey Wood in October.  Really nice site, with a  very short walk to the train station.  There are many nice green areas around the Abbey wood site but no resturants in walking distance.  I think from what people on the site said to us, CP has more going on but is much noisier...........just depends what you like!  We have booked AW again for this October as it ticked all the right boxes for us!

There is a camp site about 1mile from me on the edge of Epping Forest, it has 6 fields and on one of the fields you are allowed to light fires in. It is 5-10 drive to underground station. Lovely spot to camp and loads of eating places locally in Loughton. There is a small shop on site but excellent shopping within 5 mins drive.

Do a search for Debden camp site on camp site search. I know the site, and the guys who look after it,  well, as I look after the play equipment on the site, as the site is actually owned by the education dept of Newham council, but it is a public site.
