OH has decided that London might a good idea for this year`s main holidays in August. I have been searching for a campsite for the last two nights and some have no reviews for last year. Did anyone go to a London campsite last year and if so which one? What was it like?
Ideally we are looking for a quietish campsite, but with train links or buses into London nearby. We don`t necessarily need a clubhouse or entertainment onsite, but a pub within walking distance would be nice. As we have two kids aged 14 and 11 we would like something for them onsite, but again it`s not essential. Any ideas anyone?

There is another Caravan Club site at Abbey Wood SE London £5.40 for a travel card to cover train bus and underground for the whole day, 45 mins to Charing Cross by mainline train. There is al;so a site at Edmonton in North London you can find it on Google.
We went to Abbey Wood in October. Really nice site, with a very short walk to the train station. There are many nice green areas around the Abbey wood site but no resturants in walking distance. I think from what people on the site said to us, CP has more going on but is much noisier...........just depends what you like! We have booked AW again for this October as it ticked all the right boxes for us!
There is a camp site about 1mile from me on the edge of Epping Forest, it has 6 fields and on one of the fields you are allowed to light fires in. It is 5-10 drive to underground station. Lovely spot to camp and loads of eating places locally in Loughton. There is a small shop on site but excellent shopping within 5 mins drive.
Do a search for Debden camp site on camp site search. I know the site, and the guys who look after it, well, as I look after the play equipment on the site, as the site is actually owned by the education dept of Newham council, but it is a public site.

We went to the Debden site a few years ago, did us fine - only minor gripe was that the grass could have done with cutting - but I heard a rumour it had closed down - is it still operating then?
We stayed at Swiss Farm site at Henley on Thames. Sure you could get to London by train from there - but you would have to check. A lovely place to stay. Nice campsite - quite rural but within walking distance to town and shops. They've even got a swimming pool (Outdoor) on site. Nice large pitches, clean showers/loos etc - even baths.

There are always rumours about it closing, because it's a council run site, but no it is still up and running. I know the guys who look after the site and I used it last year to practice putting up my new tent.
Chertsey is a great site, very clean and situated on the banks of the thames with plenty of pub overlooking the river.About a 20min train ride to london and is a fantastic. Maddy.x

Hi- I live in Chingford, London, and can recommend the Lea Valley site on Sewardstone Road, it has a bus to the tube station, and also I have visited Debden on quite a few occasions, it is a lovely site in the heart of Epping Forest, the only drawbacks are poor links to Public Transport and can get noisy at weekends but they have very good security gates/ guards, and generally friendly atmosphere. For a visit to central London I would opt for Sewardstone Rd.
