Would you like to recommend a campsite within 60 mins travelling time of the Midlands.

We are a family of 6 (4 kids), so don't recommend any that would frown and scowl when seeing us pull into the driveway, but we don't really enjoy the on site club attraction either.

We want beautiful scenery, babbling brooks and wooded areas of breathtaking beauty to enjoy short weekend stays.

We prefer to have hook-ups available, but would like unregimented pitches.

(ps isn't that what we all want????)

PPS Am I asking for the impossible?, is there such a place?, Have you been there?.

I HOPE THEY ALLOW CAMPING IN HEAVEN!!

Not sure if this may be too far for you but we stay here a lot, very laid back and the kids love it.

Hi Little China,

I would recommend Fforest Fields (Builth Wells). It is our favourite site and will be our first destination this year. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1674

It may be a bit far though, about 80 miles from Walsall via Shrewsbury and about 1Hr 30mins journey but well worth it read the reviews.

Hi

We are looking for a site to visit this Easter with almost identical requirements. We have enquired about Fforest Fields but they don't allow tents with electricity until Whitsun because of the load on their EHUs causing problems.

Does anyone have any other ideas - Fforst Fields would be perfect if we could get EHU.

Thanks

Thank you everyone for your kind words about Fforest Fields   I thought I would just clarify what has been said about the ehu's; yes, at the moment we cannot  accept tents with hook-ups during the early (colder) part of the season.  This is  because we have electric showers and we find that if they are going full tilt and then someone switches on a non-camping heater or kettle or microwave - pfaf, all the poor people in the showers get cold and we get into a blind panic trying to sort out the electics before you leave en masse demanding your money back!  Sooo, just at the moment, until we build the new loos (planning HAS finally come through) and the showers are run on geo-thermal heat with an eco friendly top-up, we have to turn away tents that want ehu, it hurts!!

Hi Katie

You'll obviously have realised that we had an email exchange this weekend prior to my post here. I would just like to emphasis that I think your approach is the correct one.

I would not like to visit a site and suffer from EHU problems as you have described. In fact last easter we visited one which suffered similar issues and ended up with part of their site having no electricity for 24 hours (luckily not our part). You are taking a responsible approach by avoiding them in the first place.

Fforest Fields is on our must visit list for later in the season. We may still come at Easter if I can persuade my wife that we can manage without a heater, but she is sceptical.

Thanks for the clarification.

Steve
