Hi,  Just picked up on this topic and realised we are booked with them at Easter. We are staying for the first time at Spiers House, near Pickering. We are booked in for 3 Nights & have been charged £48.90 for two Adults, 1 Caravan, 1 Car & two dogs. Didn't think that was too bad - perhaps they charge more in the Southern Sites?

While we're on the subject - has anybody been to Spiers House, who hasn't put up a review? Would be interested in your comments - or from anybody else who is going here at Easter.

Cheers

Jan (Jackrascals)

I tried to fill an online booking form in

got to the price and had to call them to find the error....

I do like it there (Hollands Wood)

shame really. I've booked a site for easter at £11 per night

hollands wood was £100 for 3 nights (including my "discount" card)

Motherboard113,

What time of the year did you stay at Spiers House, we are going at Easter - will the midgies be on their winter holidays that early in Season - hope so!. Apparantly eating Marmite is supposed to be good to repel them. We too have been to Fangfoss and enjoyed the Site - only problem was the Shower Block but this might have been updated by now.

Regards Jan (Jackrascals)

I too have complained directly to Forestry commision about price hike.
It seems that our wonderful government are to blame!

Have a read of the text below, which is taken from the reply to me.

we were finally successful a few years ago in getting monies from a Treasury Challenge Fund (the Capital Modernisation Fund) to rebuild our three cabin sites.
This money was only forthcoming on the understanding that we looked for a private sector partner to take on much needed reinvestment in the camping sites.

So it seems that Gordon Brown has his hand in the huge price increases that we all see that are not showing as improved facilities at the simple sites in the New Forest!

The situation has partly been brought on by campers themselves. Just from reading comments on this site it seems that a growing majority are more interested in how sparkling the toilet blocks are, rather than the many other benefits of camping.  How long do they spend in the toilet? [:errr:]

More CL sites are now providing EHU because,  heaven forbid some people would have to leave the hairdryer at home. [:o)]

I don't suppose you can blame the Forestry Commission for moving with the times and supplying facilities that the majority now seem to want.
