hi, a few mates and i want to go camping in a few months time, we are age 25/26 but we want a quiet site with little / no road noise, and not a commercial one.

somewhere to get away from everything and camp under big trees and ideally with a stream or lake

we live in Reading so the new forest is a good option we think only 1 hour 30 away. I have looked at site reviews and thought of these so far:

- setthorns - sounds lovely altho no toilets !!

- holmsley - sounds nice and big altho possibly a bit commercial?

- roundhill

i stayed at ashurst for a few nights last year, and it was a nice site, with big trees and ponies wandering, however the road noise was a bit annoying, although we were at the front of the site...

if anyone can think of any suitable sites for us please post a reply, it doesnt have to be the new forest, maybe we have to go further afield to get a really idyllic site??

Hi beno,

If you fancy venturing "up north" I would recommend the three National Trust sites in the Lake District.

Great Langdale,Low Wray and Wasdale.

Great walking, stunning scenery and good pubs!

Being NT sites they are not commercial in any way and have a relaxed feel about them, but you can not book so I would avoid Bank Holidays as the sites are are always full.

Hope this helps,my son uses these sites and he is around your age and he finds them excellent for walking and socialising.

Hi, don't know if it is to far for you, but there is a lovely site in Betws-y-Coed, called Dolgam, a family run site, next to a stream which if the weather is warm enough you can swim in, and spectacular views. Lots of places to visit as well, as you are very close to Snowdonia.
