Hi,

Has anyone been to Ashurst and Holmsley?

Could you write a quick comparison?

Thanks very much

Basically I would like to know

-what kind of tree cover there is at Holmsley, I found ashurst was pretty good for this as we found a pitch under the big trees!

-is there any fishing in the local area???

-is there any cycle hire?

I started a booking for 7 days for 4 people in July and it come back with a standard pitch at £92 which sounds great... we are aware there might be a charge for a car but at £92 thats only £23 a person!

I've never camped in the New Forest as we live fifteen  minutes away and walk in the Forest most weekends. Last year we walked through the Ashurst site to look at the various types of tent people used - I was put off somewhat by rats around the bins.

If you like peace and quiet, the site at Matley Wood looks just the thing, although they don't allow tents unless you have your own toilet.

Loads of cycle hire at Brockenhurst and Burley, Holmsley is well  placed for the seaside at Highcliffe which is really nice.

I havn't camped a Homsley, athough we wnet to have a look around. There is a LOT of concerete as it is a disused airport. The tent were all on the raised areas between the runways. It has a nice play park, but not as much cover as Ashurst which is our normal site.

We love Ashurst and I have to say I've never seen rats, but then we normally pitch as far away from the bins and toilet block as we can. But I would say its a forsest, you will get critters of all discriptions running around. Loads of cows, ponies, and donkeys.  Ashurst has had its toilet block re-vamped this year, but also its prices which have more than doubled, since it has been taken over by the C&CC.
