Hi it's me again. Thanks for all your comments on camping in Cornwall. We have decided to not go to Cornwall, too expensive! And first time down that horrid road with a caravan we thought we might go to Devon instead, not as far. We have been lookiong at the caravanning club "Start Bay". Has anyone been there? We have two kids 4 & 7. Or can anyone recommend anywhere on the Torquay side. My eyes have gone square starring at the computer for the last 2 days!!!

Only one touring site in Torquay, Widecombe farm, its right at the back on the outer ring road, car is a must. The best site for the age of your kids will be Woodlands, near Dartmouth, http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=3286, our kids love the leisure park, its not the cheapest site around, but you do get unlimited access to the park, lots of things to do.
have you thought of trying North Devon. As much as i like S/Devon the North is beautiful.Rugged coast line and lovely sandy beaches. The big meadow between Ilfracombe and Combe Martin is a great site.Nice and clean, decent showers/toilets and has a pub just on the fringes of the site, plus its in a lovely location next to Watermouth cove.Hope this helps

River Dart Country park nr Ashburton is a great site for kids.
Wooded site with riverside walks, zip wires, play lake with pirate ship, slides, indoor rock climbing, tennis courts, outdoor pool, loads to keep the kids occupied and your also a short drive to Dartmoor and the south coast resorts.
Its not a glitzy commercial site, can get busy in high season, has bar/takeaway.

just inland from dartmouth, just down the road from a pebbley beach. 4 time this year and really looking forward to it. bets time to go though is school term....
To Chook Chaser. I tried to reply to you separately but as you can see further up I messed up!!! Chat forums are new to me. I just wanted to say thanks for your advice. We are now booked in at the River Dart Country Park. I think the kids will love it.Once again thanks.
Start Bay is beautiful but beware that beach if you have little ones - it slopes very steeply and the currents are lethal. However, there are many lovely beaches nearby, Blackpool Sands is stunning. Woodlands is well located for everywhere.
Well done for choosing beautiful Devon, so many people just whizz through on their way to Cornwall - mind you I will be moaning when I can't get a parking space in town this summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is SUCH a long journey from you to here.... my sister lives in Seaford and it seems to take a lifetime to get there!
