I have just contacted Forest Holidays who run most of the main sites in the new Forest and they have told me that the fees will be approx £21 per night (high season - a bit less mid season) this is for C & CC members with age concession and mid week, for two of us with a tiny little camper van that takes up even less space than a tent plus a car. Is this the usual kind of cost for this area or does anyone know anywhere a bit cheaper in the area.
We only camp mid week and go home for weekends. Thanks

Try Bashley Park and Lytton Lawn. Bashley is more commercial. At Lytton Lawn you can use the facilities pool, gym,bar etc at the nearby Shorefield site. Not sure of the prices but we found both value for money. Loos and showers clean and warm on both sites.
I was so shocked at the price I was quoted that I just phoned again and this time I was quoted £10.70 for the pitch to include two adults from Sunday to Thursday plus a 30% discount for C & CC members, this is for now which is not high season and this is excellent value. Weekends are dearer of course.
Sounds much better, why did the first lady quote me such a high figure, I am glad I re-checked. This second lady sounded much more on the ball.
OH and me refuse to pay grossly inflated high season prices anymore.
If that's a concessionary rate then I'd tell them to "stick it where the sun don't shine!"
We do a week in late April, our main holiday middle to late June either in the the UK or France and an early Autumn break in September.By going at this time we miss all the crowds and the traffic jams but more importantly the campsite prices are far more to our liking.
BTW, we did Lytton Lawns last September and loved it.........
Cheers!

I am glad you got sorted! I found the Forest Holidays staff very knowledgeable and friendly. I think there are only a few of them working in the call centre. Maybe the first person you spoke to was new and made a mistake. I made a couple of bloomers when i was new in a call centre and felt mortified when i realised what i had done.
It is worth phoning because the age discount, for instance, isn't available if you book online.

No this is not the usual cost for this area thank goodness. The forest holidays have just been taken over by the C&CC and they have increased their prices dramatically. what last year would have cost the 4 of us £12 a night high season this year will be £25!!!!! needless to say we will not be using any of these sites again when you can use a couple of sites down the road for the same price and have all the ammentites thrown in!
