Hi can anyone help?

My son and about 15 of his friends would like to go camping in or around Cheshire after their GCSE's.  They are a sensible bunch who have worked really hard all year and would like a break.

Does anyone know of any campsite that will allow them to stay without parental guidance?

Thank you.

Jackie.

Sadly I think you may find that a lot of sites will not accept under 18s. You may have to try quite a few before you find one that might take the chance.

Hi Jackie

I really doubt they will find anywhere.  We take the teenagers in the youth group (14-18 year olds) away camping once a year but all sites we have used demand a ratio of one adult per 6 teenagers and make it abundantly clear that if there is any messing about at all, we will be asked to leave.

it's a real shame because i'm 15 and would love to go camping, but nowhere would except me, and anyway, i've got to wait another year 'til i'm 17! what i would suggest is wild camping, unless one of his friends looks grown up...

Have you tried any of the scout camps?

Is there a site you use regularly that you could talk to the owner and put up some kind of bond?

The Camping and Caravanning Club rules state that youths aged 16 and over are allowed to camp on any Club site without adult supervision at the discretion of the Site Manager.  Sadly I suspect that most wouldn't allow a group, but it's worth phoning up the nearest Club site and asking.

And to Nyika, it says that members of the Club's Youth Section, who have passed the Youth Camping Test, are allowed to camp on Club sites without supervision from age 14.  Personally I have no idea what this involves, but why not find out?  Their web site is here or you can get more information about it from the membership department on 0845 130 7632.

Id suggest doing what I did with my friends at that age and approaching farmers and ask if you can use one of their fields. Some even let us do it for free and took a deposit off us at the start and then gave it back to us at the end if we left the field tidy. Make sure they make themselves sound responsible when they enquire and mention things like digging a latrine and collecting rubbish.

Alternatively, could they go to a music festival, and camp there instead, no problem with their age, in fact, it would be the norm.  I am sure they would have great fun.

One place they probably would get away with camping, is Santa Pod, near where I live. It is a Drag Racing venue, and they have plenty of campers there at their race meetings, and they have facilities, onsite entertainment, refreshments etc.
