Visited Talybont-on-Usk the other week, so we popped into Gilestone CP for a quick look around. We did stay there last year and thoroughly enjoyed the visit, the hiking was brilliant and the pubs were great. The owners had promised new facilities this year, replacing the portacabins that were utilised last year.........sadly the portacabins are still there. Wonder what happened. Gilestone would be a brilliant place if they could install a few shower blocks for the top and bottom fields.......another jewel in the crown of Brecon Beacons, anyone know what's happening there

Well, if they have had the same problem as us, planners and architects!   It has taken us 18 months to get permission for our new facilities and Gliestone are in the National Park which probably makes it an even more drawn out affair.  We promised to build them last winter but the permission did not come through until the end of October (the application went in in February) and that did not give us enough time to get them finished before the start of this season.  Fingers tightly crossed we WILL get them up at the end of this season though! As Katie surmised Gilestone have run into planning problems. The Beacons Park authority have apparently complained about storage of caravans, including ours. Rumour in the village is that Gilestone is just too popular and when they fill their permitted 122 pitches, grumpies in the village get upset. They say the site can only take 50! You can imagine the increase in GBP (Grumpy Blood Pressure) when a West Wales Centre rally, permitted under the 28 day exemption, also turned up. Jeremy Clarkson has nothing on them! Despite that everybody had a great time late into the beautuful evening sunset and far beyond.  wahttp://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=gilestone&by=sitename
