Hi
Looking around to maybe try a different part of Cornwall at some point this year. We've never been anywhere in or around Looe - any comments? What is the area like?
We have stayed on the Roseland Peninsula, St Ives, Mousehole and various places on the north coast before and enjoyed them all but I don't like very touristy/kissmequick type places eg once went to Mevagissey for the day and there were lots of people enjoying themselves there but it didn't work for me! Thanks MT

Hi there
We stayed at Killigarth Manor just outside Polperro and walkable to the village (as long as you are fit and can walk up very steep hills) Have a look in the site reviews section, I think we found it quite nice if I remember. We never camp though in the school holidays.

I quite like Fowey and surrounding area. There are a few small beaches hidden round those parts too. Close by, Lerryn is a lovely little village with river with stepping stones over to The Ship public house - certainly not touristy. Only has two shops.
Polperro is lovely too with lots of nice pubs. Boscastle is also very nice.

We had our honeymoon in Looe 38 years ago (1969) so obviously I have a soft spot for it.
The surrounding countryside and villages are lovely. Hope you enjoy yourselves there.
In fact I may go back there this year in the little van.

there is a brilliant farm camp site in polperro itself, Leave kilgarth well alone this is the john fowler site there is also an excellent site between looe and polperro called caradon which is run by a dutch family and is totally spotless and on a bus route to both polperro and looe, i can highly reccomened both of these.

We love it around Looe - it is only just over an hour from home so quite good for weekends for us. It depends on how many facilities you like - we always stay at West Wayland which is Circa 1950's (!) but very friendly and clean - basic clean shower block in the middle of a field overlooking Talland Bay, very very cheap (£3.50 pn ph I think) Fish and chip van comes every night if you dont want to cook and it is mid way between Looe and Polperro - a bus stops outside if you don't fancy driving. It suits us very well, and people who go there seem very friendly. Looe is LOVELY, try to go when the trawler racing is on, a great day out, Polperro is of course touristy but has it's charms, much nicer than Mevagissey. Lovely NT houses to visit round there... Enjoy!

We live up on the north coast in Bude so Looe is only an hour or so from us - feels like a million mile away from home! We stay at the Caravan Club site in Looe, which is brilliant and open all year round. Plenty of pitches and space, fab faciltiies (loos, etc) and within walking distance of Looe.....if you're fairly fit!
You could always try beautiful BUDE! It has started to get pretty busy but nothing like the Newquay's of our fab county.
Where ever you go in our wonderful county enjoy it and have fun!
