Hi, could anybody please recommend a campsite in the Bideford / Barnstaple area for myself and my family. We dont like big regimental sites with clubs pools amusments etc. etc. You know what i mean dont you, chav free hopefully !!!! Its a fairly big family tent we have so a site with tiny pitches wouldnt be much good.

We need to be not too far from the local beaches and being close to the Tarka cycle trail would be excelent. Maybe you know somewhere just outside these areas so by all means please let me know.

Thanks,  Rob.

That sounds just perfect but really wanted to go further south. We went to the lynton/lynmouth area a couple of years ago so fancied somwhere else. This is why we liked the sound of barnstaple/bideford area but there doesnt seem to be all that many campsites down that way.

this one is at Umberleigh, which is a countryside location not far from Barnstaple and Torrington.  Close to the Tarka trail.  We havent stayed in this site, as we are in Devon we have passed it many times on the way to do the tarka trail.

I would imagine the site is very quiet and peaceful, and a lot to do/visit in the surrounding area by a short car journeys.

Steart Farm at Horns Cross is lovely. Very peaceful, with great views out across the sea.

You could try us, we are directly opposite the Tarka Trail, and nearest beach 4 miles away!

How about Lobb Fields at Braunton?  We had our vans there for a couple of seasons a few years ago and it was handy for the whole of that coastline.

Bening from Barnstaple I wouldnt recommend that place especially when its hot as the stench from the sewerage works is a killer
