I've put this here, as the tent info forum seems more geared to big frame/family type tents, but I was wondering whether anyone has any experience or knowledge (both, ideally!) of :

Vango Halo 200 PRO

and/or

OneTigris Smokey Hut tents?

Many thanks in anticipation!

Not the Halo 200, but I do have a Halo 300 if that helps. Great tent, nice height, semi-geo, so able to pitch almost anywhere. I use mine for motorcycle camping, and from memory think the 300 actually packs smaller length-wise than the 200, which was important to me. The only annoying thing about it is that due to the design rain will land on the inner tent when coming in and out. But overall a nice tent, in fact I've recently sold by Vaude Mark 3, which is very similar, but much more expensive (and some lovely features) as I actually prefer the Halo

Thank you👍
There are also 1 or 2 reviews on site , but as yet no one seems to have any experience of the SmokeyHut.
I don't normally do plastic, preferring canvas, but recently bought a Halo 200 when I found the Banshee I had bought way too short, for lightweight 1 bag canoe camping, where I had used a tarp previously
I can see it would be excellent on the bike, in the past I have again always used a cotton/canvas tent when on the motorbike. Thank you again.

Really pleased with the Halo (amazingly capable), and the One Tigris....although the latter did need some modifying. It's a minimalist shelter as standard, and I reinforced the central hanging hook for any internal mozzie tent, and I replaced the peripheral bungee loops for something a little meatier. Packs down to about the size of a kitchen roll, and weighs just over a kilo.

A 35 litre back pack is now very feasible for an overnighter!
But I still prefer sleeping under cotton when I can!!

I've just put my first post up on the tent info page, but I have the same question as you.

Looking for a 4p to walk shorter distances with, rather than a full mountain hike.

Anyone got any experience with the MSR Elixir 4?

I seem to have quite a few tents now and on the look out for a new one again.

I quite fancy the Dan Durston x-mid 2

https://durstongear.com/product/x-mid-2p

I would get rid of the two Colemans, the naturehike and the eureka. The only tents I use regularly are the helium, the Dutch Pyramid and the force ten.
The concept of splitting a 1.1 kilo tent between the two of us appeals strongly.

That looks an interesting lightweight tent......don't Gossamer Gear do something similar too?

I think they do though Dan Durston says his is different due to the geometry and his insistence on seam strength and a different fabric - sil-polyester.
The way the tent is set up the Poles don't impede entrance and there is a larger vestibule. He also claims better snow and rain shedding due to the panel structure.
The seams are supposed to be very strong and waterproof and condensation is less as well. The sil-poly won't sag like sil-nylon when wet.
I think the gossamer gear is lighter though. I like the fact that he tests the gear he designs and his designs are usually in reaction to other bad tent designs. The trouble is that the manufacturing runs are short and so they are hard to get. They are cheaper than their competitors.
The only downsides I can see is the mesh inner but they all have that, the large footprint of the tent. You need a good sized pitch and also the need to square it off properly to get a good pitch.
It will stand up with 4 pegs and it survives Canadian Rockies weather so should be good for rain and snow.

That sounds great and very interesting re sil nylon....I only have one so called lightweight tent, the One Tigris Smokey Hut, and the sil nylon of that does indeed seem to sag just a little when wet......

Are you intending to put any review and photos of that tent on site at any time?

Just watched the videofrom the ad.,(could that be implanted in a review on site???), mightily impressed!

If I am lucky enough to get it then I will post the review. Production runs usually sell out within a day and there are another 6000 people who have registered an interest.
I like how Dan Durston takes time to reply to forum posts on the Web.

Anyone used an Alpkit Soloist? I am looking at a tent less than 1.5kg for a month long bikepack in NZ and this seems good value. Won't be used every night, so don't want to spend a fortune!
