Why don't you offer to run them out to Here for the cost of your fuel It cant be more than 25 mins from Sheffield

And yes I would offer if I was in your shoes

No! Not Laneside!  I'm a carless (and maybe careless) backpacker and found Laneside to be an unpleasant site. I got told to pitch right up to the hedge along the busy main road and didn't enjoy the smell of the sewage farm in the middle.  A bit too much tarmac too - really is a caravan site that has some tent pitches.

Pindale - just up the road is a much more pleasant site and an easy walk either down to Hope or Castleton.  Can be very crowded on weekends but often empty in the week - I've been the only soul there a few times. Fieldhead in Edale also being a fine site with no cars in the camping grounds which is a bonus.

I really would think again about this trip. I know our 4 yr old gets tired at the wrong time when we are on trips and then needs to be carried unless his 2yr old brother will budge over a bit on his pram. Lugging all that kit about and looking after two youngsters is a recipe for rows unless you have the patience of a saint. It might not be their cup of tea but I would just rent a static and take the minimum of stuff and then go on the train. All power to them if they go ahead with it though.

Just noticed that Lidl are now doing 70l holdall bags on wheels for £9.99. That might make lugging stuff about a tad easier.

Fieldhead in Edale is easy to get to without a car as it is 400 mts from train station but apart from all the lovely walks there is nothing for young kids of their age to do.  good luck to them and let us know where they end up as i am always on the lookout for campsites within easy reach of public transport.

A friend of mine wants to go camping and has bought a tent but they do not have any transport (only public). They have a 18 month child in a pram and a 5 year old. Can anyone advise as to what equipment they should take and how to carry it all?    I have tried to put her off but to no avail!!

Maybe they could have a go in the back garden first, if they have one?

I am a bit disappointed to hear that they didn't try - would have loved to hear about the experience. In my opinion where's a will there is a way.
It was not camping, but I have once tried to travel alone with a 3 year old and a 6 year old, a pushchair, 25 kg of luggage in a backpack and in a bag on the pushchair, using bus, train, plane and taxi. All went well, but Mummy's back hurt a bit, though...
