i can recomend two - my bag, a Rab Ladahk 1100 thats comfort rated down to about -25c or so, and the Alpkit bags.
truth is, the Alpkit bags are just as good as a £300 Rab bag at only half the price. they don't seem to be selling them at the moment, but its worth contacting them to see when they'll be in stock.
a down bag will be warmer and pack up smaller than a synthetic bag, but more expensive, and will react very badly to getting damp.
easy things you can do to uprate any sleeping bag are to use a liner, use a bivvy bag, have a decent hot meal before you go to bed, wear socks/baselayers, and put as much insulation as possible between the sleeping bag and the floor - mats, rucksacs, newspapers, cardboard etc..
the Snugpak bags are very well made (i've got a 20yo sofie hawk..) and are at the top end of the synthetic range. if Alpkit aren't selling, and you've not got £300 burning a hole in your pocket, i'd go for one of them.
