drives you insane, doen't it, even more annoying then fabric flapping, somehow you just can't tune out that tinkle tinkle. The first thing my zip pulls get now is a fabric plaster wrapped around them.

Thank you everyone - I have mentioned camping touring in conversation with my husband although not mentioned that I am thinking of buying him a tent!

His response was that his new made to measure tourer has an audax frame because that was all he thought he needed (recent landmark birthday present) and that it won't take front panniers.

He thought we would stay in B&Bs/hostels when we start long distance touring (new to me)!

I can carry 30-40kg on mine, but my husband's new tourer will only take 8-10kg.

Perhaps we need to win the lottery and buy a couple of heavy tourers.

I might think about it a bit more before I take the plunge and part with my hard earned cash!

Thing is Spirit - I am like a mule anyway, carrying our gear on days out - imagine how much I would be made to carry like this!!

I have been coveting a Thorn Nomad for years - but no way unless we both get them.

We are currently bidding on a used touring tandem so that our 9 year old can 'enjoy' more miles a day than she can manage on her own.

I reckon she might need some sort of therapy when she grows up at this rate!!

Interesting read but I think if tracksterman was chocolate he would eat himself. He has a poor opinion of almost everyone else which sort of tarnished what he was doing..imo!

You're right Vangoman. He admits it himself that he's an 'arrogant c*ck'. While I admire his adventures I'd not want to meet him on the hill.

It is, for me though, more entertaining than other 'outdoor' blogs I see where it's all about the gear.

Update here .. First pay packet will be spent on a galaxy tandem with front and rear racks .

Husband and daughter on tandem and me on my bike means that carrying a tent is once again an option and that we can plan longer rides than she is capable of.

I'm just back from a long weekend in the Wild Country Zephyros 3 Living, less than 5Kg, the original concept was designed for cycle touring, might be worth a look.

Still trying to get the packing right.

Thank you Snappy. I am not sure we want anything that high - prefer something lower to the ground after some of the weather we have seen this year. We would hate to be one of those families sleeping in their car when we are on our bikes.

We have got the tandem though few problems to resolve with missing parts but it is here and carrying a tent/gear for three is once again an option.

I've just purchased a Berghaus 3.3 3 man for me and my young lad but it'll also get used when I go kayaking , it's a great size and weight just over 3kgs but I was also impressed with the OEX range of tents at A certain shop , these were quite good for bikes and kayaks as they come in two packs but more than that they looked really good .

I was having a look at the OEX tents at Gooutdoors after reading reviews by people who had bought them. They were saying part of the reason they bought one was the fact they were made it the UK..I believe the company actually says " designed in the UK" not made in the UK?

I just bought a Zephyros 3 and like the head room. The design is very aerodynamic and I think it will take some heavy weather.

Uttings have some high spec tents at low prices and are offering a further 10% off if you sign up to their newsletter. I was very impressed with their online shopping service.
