Scale back on every aspect of what you take with you.
As a former cycle tourist I kniw it is very possible but reduce what you take as well as the size and weight to a minimum. Then lay it all out and reduce it further.
Tilll you have a very small tent, warm sleeping bag, a few clothes, a toothbrush and a bar of soap.

Just logged in to this site after some time away and quite astonished to see people still interested in the scooter touring post! I am still bikeless, but it is one idea I should like to look at when I retire. In the meanwhile and with my days of car camping becoming ever more restricted due to the costs of running a car, over some time I have been carefully collecting modern ultralight camping gear with a view to backpacking (getting about by train and bus, cycle touring and scooter touring, the gear could be used for all these lightweight pursuits. It's fantastic what you can get nowadays, tents that weigh a couple of pounds, titanium pots and down sleeping bags that could waft away on a breeze. It's costly, but I've been trying to buy one item every other pay day and I'm getting there. Camping is just about my favourite way of spending leisure time and it's great to know that not having a car in the future needn't mean no camping. Finally, thank you to everyone who has responded to my post, I do read all the posts (eventually!) and you are all putting some great ideas into my head. Happy days everyone, stay safe!

In the late 50s we moved house on a Lambretta 125 with all our worldly possessions.

Now we need a pantechnicon just for clothes!
