Hi richard,

The reason i roll it is that the peg bag and pole bag go in the centre then roll it up with them in the middle, that way you cant lose them, plus they are nicely cushioned in the centre and won't get any direct pressure on them which could force them to puncture their bag or the tent itself.

I'm tempted to go for the Argos thing myself, it'd do great for the kids as tryout tent. Only 2 1/2 season though.

Happy trekking. Stu..

Take a look at Field and Trek, they are having a sale this weekend and you get a further 20% discount at checkout...I got a Vango Spectre 300 for £55 delivered...that is about half of what they normally sell for...

The Argos Pro Action Hike Lite is a superb tent. Used one this summer and it 'ticked all the boxes' as they say nowadays!

Thanks! He's 21, big and strong, and will probably arrive by train and not have to take things too far (unless they move on day by day). He has a list of kit to take which doesn't include cooking things.

However, I went down to the local camping shop this afternoon and compared the weights of the 300 and the 200. I must say, the 200 was significantly lighter (2.75kg) and will probably be perfectly adequate.

(He doesn't really need his mum to choose a tent for him  but he's hardly home between now and then and hasn't camped before, whereas I need very little excuse to go tent shopping!!)

    Thanks for the advice.

Thanks everyone. Lots of useful info on this thread.

In the end my son took the Vango Alpha 200 which was fine as he didn't have to carry it about day by day.

They also camped under tarps and made shelters out of branches and leaves - cool!
