Hi

Could anyone advise. I am after a very compact but stable and efficient stove (much smaller than our suitcase stoves) and one that we can use with a decent size saucepan of pasta for 3 and the standard mixed butane/propane cannisters. I've done some homework and currently like the look of:

Hi..they are both good stoves and both use resealable cannisters which are easily obtainable.Trangia meths stoves are brilliant but a new set starts about £50 and gas convertion kit another £40, they are even expensive second hand on the likes of Ebay.

I have used both Trangia and gas stoves, they do the same job. Trangia is an all in one with kettle,pots,pans and you need to carry methalated spirits as fuel which isn't to expensive, gas is less smelly but more expensive and you still need to carry pots and pans....hope this is of some help..

I have an old trangia and use the saucepans as our standards for camping. Just never got on with the burner and my OH doesn't fancy it. Hence why considering these - far cheaper than going with a trangia conversion.

Thanks for all the suggestions. As I could get the Hi Gear one for £17 delivered with its piezo ignition, and it seems to be popular among certain outdoor groups and packs up the same size as the Vango, I've gone for that one. Hopefully I made the correct decision.

I'll feed back on how we get on with it.

Just to feedback - we've used the HiGear Inferno folding stove and its brilliant! We also got the Gelert adapter for it so we can run it on the aerosol type cannisters. It works a treat, seems very well made, very stable and very compact! The Gelert adapter also fits within the storage container and the container and small multi-panel windshield both fit within our trangia saucepan set minus the kettle! Just what we needed!

Funnily enough, I've just been looking at these kind of cookers yesterday and today and was wondering if you could use the with the aerosol canisters.

I got mine from here - Gelert Mini Gas Adapter. Gelert also do a more all inclusive adapter set for over cannister stoves where you don't have the hose connection I believe. Simple but very effective. As a package the Inferno stove and adapter make a brilliant package - low profile, stable, large pot stand, highly adjustable and suitable for different cannister types. Taking it next week instead of one of the suitcase stoves.
