I've been busy and it seems like ages since I've been away but I sneaked a trip up to the Lakes on Thursday.

I parked on the Wrynose Pass, just down from the Three Shire Stone and worked my way around the south side of Cold Pike and up toward Red Tarn before turning left for the summit.

The forecast was for a clear, sunny day on Friday but the cloud was still clearing off the tops of Crinkle Crags in the early evening.

Crinkle Crags is one of my favourites and I took my time working around its lumps and bumps before finding a good spot to pitch near Shelter Crags. A perfect evening, with tea cooked by a small stream before pitching the tent overlooking the Isle of Man and the Scafells.

It gets light pretty early this time of year (in fact it didn't really get that dark) and I was up early, packed and headed for Bowfell at 7am.

I had Bowfell summit to myself (another favourite) on a gorgeous clear day. There was a bit of cloud that came in as I worked over Esk Pike and Allen Crags but by lunchtime the sun was out again as I headed to Glaramara.

It was a bit too warm for me actually, I prefer it cool for walking but the views along the undulations of Glaramara's south side are wonderful all around and I had plenty of stops.

Then it was back around Allen Crags to Esk Hause ...

... and a sneaky route around Esk Pike to save the legs before working my way down to Lingcove Beck and back to the Hardknott Pass via Mosedale.

A long day, but a great day. Just wish I could have stayed an extra night.

Lovely photos again, I really should get up that way at some point, perhaps a little later in the year when the weather has cooled a little. I too don't really like hot weather to walk in, as long as the sky is fairly clear I don't much mind it being cool.

Looks like you had a fantastic time. I love wild camping, but certainly don't do enough of it!

Richard (Sanhozay), a few of us - Hopley's regulars - are thinking of meeting up in September over at Wasdale NT for a couple of nights under canvas and a walk up Scafell Pike.
