I used deet of varying concentrations to keep mozzies and other insects at bay when I spent 2 years backpacking around asia and pacific. I found it unplesant to rub on all the time, especially when you're sunburnt and sweaty. Its not that effective either IMO. No matter how much you put on you always seem to get bitten.

If you can get hold of Nature's Botanical Rosemary and Cedarwood oil creme, its incredible stuff. Ozzies swear by it. Its a far more plesant odour, feels less corrosive on skin, and its far more effective.

I'm not sure if its easily available in the UK. You might have to order it from abroad.

Just a tip from a new lurker :-)

Expensive stuff to order from Australia!! I found a site there that sold it and would ship to the UK, but the postage costs were more than the creme!! $60 for a 260g pot of creme?
