The old Silvo and Duraglit wadding tins were about half the size of a syrup can, but they had metal push on cap type lids, not the insert ones like the syrup tins.
Theres also the tins that glucose travel sweets come in, sold by any good sweet shop or large chemist, or even the motorway services shop, but depending on brand, some have the cap type lid.
Lastly, theres the small hard wax type car polish tins that may be suitable, although with the rising price of metals used to make these, everything seems to be gradually changing over to plastic packaging, even the traditional can of baked beans, and tins are becoming a thing of the past.
