Hi everyone, I'm new on here and was just after some advice really. I was wondering if anyone has tried camping in a hammock? I was out at the weekend and tried a friends (not to sleep in though) and it was pretty comfy. Just wanted to see if anyone could recommend it or not before I take the plunge to buy one.

I can't answer from personal experience but have you tried searching for the word 'hammock' in the forum search (button above)? If that doesn't help try search for 'hammock +camping' in Google.

Welcome to UKCS and your first post.

Hi,
don't have a hammock myself but a few of my friends use them and swear by them, specially usefull for camping in forested areas (obvious) where a it may be difficult to find a suitable spot to pitch a tent. Often used with mozzie nets and tarps. Try searching this site for a bit more info

Yeah, been wild camping in my hammock a few times, I use a DD (http://www.ddhammocks.com/) Travel Hammock. Some people get on with them, others don't. As long as you have the trees (obviously) they are really quite easy to stick up, along with a tarp, and you don't have to worry about what the grounds like.

The BCUK link above is good, there's loads of information available.

Thanks everyone for the advice. After looking on BCUK forum people seem to be pretty positive about it so going to try it out and get myself a DD Camping Hammock. Will let you all know how it goes, fingers crossed for good weather

I bought a Green Hornet Hammock off Tenth Wonder on ebay a few years back excellent well made bit of kit, Top class service off them.
Their new model can be used on the ground might be worth you having a look at one of those.
