Just got back from the exhibition at Codicote with a Vango Omega 250 for only £99
We're going to dip our toes into the world of motorbike touring & camping this summer - I've backpacked in my younger days and we've camped for years, but with the kiddywinks finally taking independent holidays we've decided now is the time to try a bike holiday.
My husband's bike is a Kawasaki ER6 so not an all-out tourer which means that the distance we go is probably going to be limited to how long the pillion's (i.e. my) backside can survive. Might be back for a bit of advice but for now we've got the main two bits of gear - bike and tent!
Freedom for you! I posted a thread on here about scooter camping, so always interested to see what other bikers use, equipment-wise. Bet you have a great time this summer, may the weather and roads be kind to you both!
Well, I hope I'm too feminine to grow a beard but I do drink beer (well, I used to be a morris dancer so it's compulsory).
At the moment Brittany is favourite. It would have been the Lakes but the bike isn't powerful enough for us to take very much in the way of luggage so we'll be taking the absolute minimum of clothing (just enough to remain decent ). If the weather's anything like it is at the moment the Lakes would just be too cold and wet but if we go to Brittany and the weather's dreadful we'll just head south and east until we find some sun.
It'll be the first time we've been to France without bringing back a case or two of wine!
hi folkie. have you or husband thought of getting a trailer. a small trailer can take a fair bit of stuff, and is better for the bike. i did have a trailer many years ago. and it took all i needed for one person. i dont know how big your husband's bike is. but anything above 200cc can take a fair weight in towing. apart from steep hills, all my clothes and two days food went into my trailer. plus camping gear. albeit a small tent. and light weight camping gear. also. if husband does not want to carry too much. how avout you going forward on a bus or train with what you can carry. husband arrives first and get the tent up ready for you. he can then come to where the station or bus station is and pick you up. there is always a solution to a problem. even if it does not work.
I'm off tomorrow for my first bike/camp. Got a 3 man Vango - I'm a big bloke - and a V-strom. Off to Hereford for 2 nights to have a day in the Brecon Beacons. Nice lazy ride down from the Wirral and back.
Love being retired, just chuffing LOVE it.
We have a Vango Omega 350 which we use for motorcycle rallys. There is plenty of space for all our gear and although you can't stand up in it, there is room to sit comfortably on a folding chair. We do have a slight advantage in that my husband and I both ride motorcycles so can take twice as much stuff!
I'm sure you'll love it and I'll keep my fingers crossed for fantastic weather for you.
