i've been in tents for years but im not camping so much lately but have been using my bivi bag and tarp much more over the last couple of years.
Due to dropping my lwb shogun on myself a few years ago i managed to bugger up my shoulders with has been making sleeping on the floor increasingly difficult and painful.
I'm off on another bushcraft meet on the 2nd of feb and thought it was about time i took to the trees.
So i have taken the plunge and ordered myself a DD frontline hammock.
The general consensus seems to be once you've slept in a hammock there's no going back.
might have to try it first in my local woods though to see if i can actually sleep in it,the long range forcast is -4 so fingers crossed

I'm glad that you are working around your injuries as opposed to giving it all up. I couldn't think of anything worse. I've looked at hammocks, and I think I'll lie on the ground for as long as I can, just because I'm able to. I believe you are right, hillbillie, once up, that's it! I could just picture myself on top of a mountain- "Hmm...I'll just tie this end to a.................tree?..............

yes i'l post some pics john.

phil, the dd range also do a travel hammock which has a waterproof base so it can be pitched as a tent (with bug net roof) so with your tarp over the top you can have the choice of floor or hanging

Hi,
bought the DD travel hammock last year and now its definitely my 1st choice for wild camps, got a dodgy back and find the hammock much comfier than sleeping on the ground. If its going to be cold consider taking a sim or old sleeping bag to slip between the base layers.
