I currently have the Vango Banshee as my backpack tent, but its not exactly a light weight thing or small, can anyone tell me what the Bivvy Bags are like or the Gelert Solo ?
or just recommend a decent and ultra light tent??

Thanks for the reply and pictures, I did look at buying the Yellow Stone like what you have in the middle picture and it is between that one or a Jack Wolfskin Gosamer. In the picture you have a Tarp over the top of the tent? is that just for a bit of extra rain protection or is it not too good in the rain?

The Yellow Stone only has one pole and you have to pitch the inner first. Up in the Highlands you could just use the inner as a mozzi net. The tarp was used as a porch so that I could use my trangia outside in the rain. (even though I used my small gas stove on this trip)
The Jack Wolfskin looks pretty good. I'd give that one a try.

A bit late but for a slimmed down (but cheap) option I'm sold on the Alpkit Rig 3.5 with a bivvy bag - I've got a cheapie Gelert Bivi that works fine. If you already carry walking poles it's a no-brainer, and even if you don't one pole is enough for a flying diamond pitch.
The Rig 3.5 is 270g and £35, a bivi around 350g and £30 - so total of 720g for £65 total. I think you'd struggle to find anything else that light for that little money. And the Rig is much more flexible that TN etc equivalents due to extra guying and pegging points.
Granted, I personally shelled out for a roll of 2mm Dyneema with mini linkloks for guys, and some lightweight TiPin pegs etc as finishing touches - but they'll be getting used with my other tents.
Used in anger for the first time a few weeks back camping at around 700m up in the Lake District. Very sloppily pitched due to flat calm and no wind (and being shattered.) Of course the weather turned during the middle of the night - it chucked it down - but I stayed warm and dry regardless. Excellent bit of kit.
