Actually, I was beginning to think I wasn't going to make this month's camp for various reasons. As well as work, there was a family wedding, and also, Heather and myself camped in Hawes. Anyway, I did make it, so on the 27th I found a lovely spot on Colborne just South of Gowburn Tunnel. I was protected by a peat wall on one side which caused the North Easterly wind to blow right over the top of me.
After cooking my dinner, I thought I would give my new Soldier Water Filter a go and was a bit nonplussed when the water came out brown. Yes, it was peat water and therefore very brown.....I just thought it should have been clear? Perhaps someone could comment on this? I would appreciate any help.
My second new piece of equipment was a new sim, which I had bought from Aldi. One word...BRILLIANT!! I went back to buy another, but they had already run out
I thought it would be fun to find another water source which I had spotted on the map, so I took a compass bearing and set off to find it, only to see that in the distance there was a hunting lodge with smoke coming out of the chimney. My first reaction was surprise, as I didn't remember seeing this on the map, so a ran back to my basha and just hoped that I hadn't been seen. It was only when I looked at my map that I realised that my hunting lodge was actually an air shaft for the Cowburn Tunnel, and that the smoke was diesel fumes venting from below. I went to have a look at this very fancy chimney and was in awe of this Victorian structure and the gaping hole which must plunge to 250 metres below. It did, however, stink. I went back to my camp and opened some wine. I was treated to the most beautiful sunset and I slept very well that night.
The next day bucketed it down with rain. After breakfast, I struck camp and set off for Brown Knoll. The peat bogs were very wet and I sank more than once up to my knees and found the going a bit tough, but great fun. I said hello to people coming up Jacob's Ladder as I made my way to Barber Booth, where my car was waiting.

Thanks privatehudson. That's the thing with night shots, isn't it? One looks pretty much the same as the rest.
How did the camp go? I'm off to the lakes with Heather and a couple of friends, so it's the 'big' tent and a campsite.
