Hi guys

I'm trying to to choose a 1-man lightweight tent for multi-day backpacking trips and have narrowed it down to the Laser Competition 1 or Telemark Nordisk 1. I'd like it to last for a fair few years, stand up well to strong winds and heavy rain and not be too bad for condensation. Ideally I'm looking for something under or around the 1kg mark (hence the 2 tents I've named) but I might be willing to take the extra weight if it can be justified (the main issue for me is packsize). For example, I've heard a lot about the Hilleberg Akto and am attracted to its reliability and robustness but also put off by the large packsize - it seems to pack down into a bag quite a bit larger than the Laser Comp or Telemark.

Any thoughts or experiences would be hugely appreciated. Thanks very much

Hi and welcome.

I cannot comment on the tents you have named; I am aware of them but have not owned them. I know the laser is a very good tent.

I have got a Gelert Solo tent and yes it is a cheap tent compared to some but wow! I went to the lakes at the start of Oct for a 6 day cycling tour and that little tent got hammered on one particular night! 80mph winds/17hr torrential rainstorm at Langdale!!! Even some of the fixed tee-pee's got washed away!!! Never ever seen weather like that mate and the National Trust campsite staff were shocked! That little solo tent was fine though; It's very low-profile in stature which helps with the wind but it did get buffeted and battered on that night! No leaks though and hardly any condensation in mornings. Go to the review page on here and tent reviews will help you.

Trekkertent does lightweight tents which pitch using your hiking poles.

Review of one model here.

Hi AJTG.
I will be putting my Terra Nova LaserLite c/w genuine FootPrint and original carbon fibre pegs, up for sale in the Spring.

The Tent is in mint original condition, if you are thinking of buying used let me know, and we can discuss offline.

I have a Wild Country Zephyros 1 which is just a cheaper version of the Terra Nova equivalant, also slightly over your suggested 1kg but a great little tent and Wild Country is owned by Terra Nova so good quality.

I also got an early xmas present with the Zephyros 2 (1.5kg if I don't use the bags), classed as grade B (Used) but to be honest when I opened it up it looks like new, not even a blemish on the inner groundsheet. £75 delivered direct from Terra Nova..

edit: grade B tents have not been slept in, only been erected and checked by Terra Nova before being offered for sale.

Be interesting to find out if the OP decided on which tent to purchase and is happy with it??
